Unknown hard error/ntdll.dll
      #282740 - Mon May 22 2006 11:52 PM

Am having severe problems installing XP Home, have now tried five times following a failure of the sytem by way of errors idenditified as STOP: C0000221, Unknown Hard Error , \SystemRoot\system 32\ntdll.dll; or, Windows\System32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt.

Hard drive has been formatted and wiped, tried set up via floppies, and even have tried downloading dll file from the web and replacing it within windows but no joy

Can anyone suggest anything else or explain why this occurs and how can I prevent it happening again

Open the case and check all PCI/AGP cards, memory and all cables cables for a tight, firm fit.

Fully repartition and format the hard drive before installing Windows. You have got a genuine Windows CD to install from?
