I've been asked by one of my sites members for a solution to her email problem. Here is her request.
Quote: My Outlook Express keeps downloading the same emails and when I try to delete them Outlook Express crashes after a few minutes with a message about a fatal error.
I have the same problem on another email address in Mailwasher and when I try to delete these messages all the computer programs that are running just stop working.
I now have 1572 emails that keep downloading in each email address.
Windows XP SP1 Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1
I have asked for the complete error message and I'm waiting for the reply. I've no experience of Mailwasher. I've already asked her to check that the 'Leave copy of message on server' option isn't checked and she has confirmed this. I've been through her Hijack This log as well and it's clean.
Any help would be much appreciated.

George had a similar problem a little while back and if my memory serves me right Jonny it was a friend's Computer with a virus that had taken control of his contact list and generated emails to all and sundry on that list. I seem to recall his ISP inbox was jammed with messages to the point where he couldn't download anything. He eventually sorted the matter out when his friend removed the virus and another friend with broadband cleared his ISP's mailbox. I also seem to recall someone suggesting that a similar thing can happen if the server becomes infected.
I suppose a good place to start then is to check with the source of the email and if its a friend ask them to run a virus check and also check with the ISP. Mailwasher allows you to check and or delete your mail without downloading to your Computer.
George will be able to tell you about his experience when he logs in and also correct any errors I may have made.
Hope this is of some help in the meantime.
Joe.

It sounds as if her server is not able to receive notification from her PC that she has downloaded her messages. That suggests that her inbox is so full that it can't take any more info. Some ISP's will clear out your inbox for you and this may solve her problem.

She's managed to delete all the messages from the server now.
At the moment I'm waiting to hear back from her about how OE is performing. I'll update this thread when I get further info.

My situation was such, a friend tried to e-mail a photograph, it became multiplied by 10 making a total of 80 odd MB's trying to download. As BT cut off after two hours it was impossible to download all 10, when reconnecting it was back to square one, the download starting all over again. This went on for days and appeals to BT to give me an extension of time fell on deaf ears. It was as Joe says resolved by another friend downloading in 30 minutes via Broadband.
The Sender was advised by his ISP he probably had a virus, BT told me they were stuck on the server and nothing could be resolved. Their final answer, use a second e-mail address in future and dispense with no 1. In other words leave photos to stay put and forget about it. There was a virus in the senders system but it was all resolved by the time this was dealt with.
I don't know if my experience bears any similarity.
I live in my own little world, but, it's OK, I'm known here.

I've not had any update today about her problem, so I don't know if it's sorted or not. As soon as I find out anything I shall post.

Hi George
I am a rookie but sometimes even our experiences can be passed on to help.
The person who had/saw a large file trying to download, can't he stop the e-mail coming through? i have saved some instructions just to do that. If for example you see "you have 5 messages" and its like watching paint dry waiting, you can gain entry to the 5 e-mails and when you see one with a large KB/MB, you can delete it.
