hi-yall hope someone can help with this query. when i bootup puter it goes through it's stages and all the while it is giving out a (what i would call a two tone high pitched sound much like the old style police siren or ambulance siren.) while this has not been a problem, as when it checks for authentication/validation the sound stops. but now the only way i can stop the sounds is to restart puter and again it goes through the checks and all sounds then stop. could this be caused by an update install from microsoft, if so do i have to put up with booting up twice. many regards whizzer.

Presumably this is a PC but it sounds like a mainframe when a case panel has been incorrectly removed/opened.
What is being authenticated/validated when you switch on, do you mean your password?

hi burrwalnut thanks for your reply, i was thinking that microsoft was doing the authentication/validation of windows version to confirm that it was a valid system. I am running xp home. whizzer

hi burrwalnut an update auth/validation I have checked my recent auto updates from microsoft and found that the genuine validation tool has been installed presumably the reason for 2tone sirens was that val/tool was not installed so I assume that was what were causing my problem. now each time I log on there are no 2tones anymore. thanks again for your support. whizzer

hello again burrwalnut guess what, yes old 2tone is back plus what sounds like someone trying to send me morse code. again having to boot-up twice before silencing the old jingles (i.e 2tone & morse). would you have any further ideas as to what it might be? many thanks in advance. whizzer.

I don't have the faintest idea.
Post the make and model number of your PC on the forum, including the motherboard details.

I've never heard of any MSI mobos making the noise you describe. Check inside the computer for any fans that aren't working which may cause overheating but I've never heard of that noise.
You could 'Google' for your motherboard manual and look for error messages/sounds.
Does the noise come from the system speaker or external speakers?
Do you have any unusual devices attached to the computer?

I've got an MSI board and had the two tone alarm sounding after working inside. After checking the seating of everything, I haven't heard it since. The 'Morse' type sounds I haven't got a clue about.
