Hello - My root partition has become full of programmes to the point where it slows down. I have done the usual cleaning up such as defrag, emptying temp file and recycle bin etc. Now it seems that I shall have to give the C drive some breathing space of which there is plenty on the logical drives. Would you recommend using one of the free appliances for that such as Ranish partition manager or Zeleps partition resizer, or should I stick to the old Partition Manager (now owned by Symantec) even if it means shelling out some quid? Usually I can follow written instructions and have done lots of work on the computer, but this is uncharted territory for me. Any Suggestions? Tks - Amos.

If you want to clean out your temp files and other things all that slow down your system try windows washer. You can set it up to delete cookies and history and address bar autofills automatically when you close your browser, shut down or even boot up. Trial here : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Window-Washer.shtml
P.S. Add 3 bleaches or none, it takes forever.

I wrote Partition Manager instead of Partition Magic in my first post. That's what it was about. As to Window Washer, I need some of that stuff and it does not take up as much space as the temp files anyway. Those are being deleted regularly.

I reckon that Partition Magic was the first and the best in this field. I got a copy before they were taken over and it works superbly. I can't see any reason why the takeover should make things worse, just more expensive. You could of course apply the 'Big Bang' theory and use FDISK to recreate your partitions but that would mean a complete reinstall of everything. On the other hand it wouldn't cost you anything apart from time.
