Advertising pages
      #281885 - Fri May 19 2006 05:56 PM

I am suddenly finding adverts underneath webpages that I close.

There are a lot of gambling pages, its just as though I am closing down this forum page and instead of returning to desktop, there is a big page advert.

Any ideas

Those nasty things are called "pop-unders" they are supposedly less annoying that "popups" and you are supposed to jump on them and buy their product. In my case, I shut them down.

Have you got a pop-up blocker? I think they're supposed to block pop-unders too. Most browsers have built-in pop-up blockers, is yours on? The Google Toolbar has a pop-up blocker or you could do a search for a free one.

If SP2 has been installed then Internet Explorer has a pop-up blocker.

Indeed. Most Toolbars, Google, Yahoo!, MSN also include a pop-up blocker too. My NIS also has a pop-up blocker. They're all on, except for the MSN one which gives way to the IE one.

Hi There

The replies did not help me very much sorry to say, can I please add more info in case it helps.

In safe mode I have done complete scan with
AdaWare
Spybot
Ewido
Regseeker
M/S Malicous tool removal
but I am still getting these adverts under web pages that I close including Webuser.

I have done a printscreen of a Hijack Log---M/S Tool result-- so these are available if asked by anyone to analize.

Go to the Hijack This forum and read AndrewC's sticky thread at the top. Follow the instructions to post a HJT log for the experts to look over for you.

Malware scans will not always show everything. I have a few legitimate games that throw up a window after the game closes, but these are simple HTML pages that are not pulling anything from the internet and were installed along with the game. In these cases it's just a matter of deleting the offending HTML files, or as I do, change them to something funny etc. of my own liking.
