I downloaded a few music files the other day and changed the file name on them to match the way I name my music files. All went well apart from when I tried to rename this file: 04-clutch-oregon-rns.mp3
I was unable to change the file name or delete it. A window comes up saying it's been used by another person or program when I try and do so. It won't play in WMP either. It says the file extension is not recognised.
I think it may have something to do with the 'rns' bit, but other files that I downloaded had that in them and I managed to change their file name and they play fine. How can I change the file name and get the song to play? I haven't a clue what program could be using this particular file. Thanks. Glynn.

I think the problems are the way the file has been named with the hyphens and with RNS, also was the source unreliable?
You may be able to convert the file to another format and then rename it in the same conversion, then reconvert it back to .mp3

I've re-named other files named in a similar way, ones with the hyphens and the rns bit with no problems. The source has always been reliable in the past. I just can't think what program could be using it.
Tried converting it using db power amp but was it was unable to open the file. It seems to be stuck there and there's nothing I can do to get rid of it.

If you want to delete it , try doing so in "safe mode".

Safe mode, now that's when you press one of the f buttons repeatedly isn't it? Or am I completely wrong? To save me messing things up can you give me and idiot's guide to going about deleting the file in safe mode. Thanks. Glynn.

safe mode When you're in safe mode it should simply be a case of right clicking the file and choosing delete.
Let us know if you need any more help,

Many thanks. I've not had a chance to try it yet, but will get back to you if I have any problems when I do give it a bash. Glynn
