What is file path reference for fonts in Windows XP?
      #280834 - Sun May 14 2006 04:51 PM

I may have messed up Windows fonts by installing Font Navigator which comes as part of my Samsung printer driver disc and then adding and deleting various fonts. I cannot find what the original path was before I added the fonts - I should have put them in the suggested folder but instead I installed somewhere else and am not sure what effect this is having.

Where are everyone else's fonts in "explore"? And is the file written Fonts or FONTS? I currently have C:\WINDOWS\Fonts with two sub-folders - CACHE and FONTS.

FONTS has a number of TT fonts identified only by numbers.

If I click on Fonts it has a far greater number of fonts identified by their names.

Try running a System Restore to a time before you installed Font Navigator.

Unfortunately this doesn't work because the System Restore only goes back in time to when I re-installed Windows XP. All other programmes were installed before then so I can't roll back to pre-font installation.

The true-type fonts (with an extension of TTF) are stored in C:\Windows\Fonts. There shouldn't be any sub folders in the \Fonts folder. At least I don't have any.

Try moving the TTFs, about 120 of them, to the Fonts folder and move everything else to a new folder.

Thanks
I have done that now. However, there seem to be different TTF fonts in the Fonts folder - I suspect I have moved some in which shouldn't be there.

Do you have .TTF and .ttf fonts? If not which? The .TTF ones seem to have an O in the thumbnail rather than TT.
I also have All res fonts .FON with an A in the thumbnail.
In addition there are some fonts listed which are just shortcuts.
The attributes column for each font has has either A RA H or nothing.

Do you have any of these in your Fonts folder?

I have much the same as you, except the shortcuts.

Why don't you delete the shortcuts but leave them in the bin for a week or so?
