which format to convert to?
      #276795 - Mon Apr 24 2006 08:48 PM

Hi All, I copied on to my DV camcorder a musical programme from the T.V.but did not copy the video part for my wife only wanted the music ( I kept the lens cap on!) I have now transferred the copy onto my P.C. (XP2). Using Nero 6 I have created a CD but it fails to play on other CD players we have about the house. The tape has copied in .avi format and I assume that I have to change that format. I have downloaded Stoik video converter as recommended on these forums in the past couple of days but I am not sure what format I need to convert to. The programme also refers to the output file (I am assuming that the CD is the input file) but how do I find this when I haven't put any programme onto the P.C.?
Thank you for taking the time and the trouble to read my problem and if you can help in any way I will be extremely grateful - God! Why did I ever try to progress beyond my wind-up gramaphone!

Go back a few steps. What did you use in Nero? Tell it to create an Audio CD and it should work fine on standard hi-fi's. Did you use a CD-R? What was the format of the input file (the tracks you used in Nero)?

OK OK I can't go any faster! aaaaaaaaaaaagh!

Thanks so much Richie for your speedy response. I will try to answer your questions but forgive me for I am not certain that I know the answers! I used a firewire from the Canon mini DV to get Nero to capture it - it didn't give me a choice as to how I wanted it. I copied it on to a CD-R. I am wondering whether I would have had no problem if I had not used the firewire, though that said, how would I transfer the camcorder tape onto the P.C. My apologies if that is no clearer for you!

You have captured the audio and video and burned this onto a CD. This won't play in a hi-fi. If you just want the audio you need to find an option in Nero to capture just the audio.
Windows Movie Maker (part of XP) has an option to im[port audio, but I'm not sure whether you can do this from a DV camera.

You should be enjoying your birthday Ritchie instead of being troubled with my query!! I have taken on board your comments and these make sense to me so I will try Movie Maker and see if I can sort it that way. In the meantime have a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Thanks so much for your help.
