Praise for NTL!
      #275588 - Thu Apr 20 2006 08:38 AM

In the four years I've had NTL BB, whenever I've had to call their helpline, I've always had good advice from courteous employees, both in the UK and India, and this morning was no exception! Problem was caused by our router and instead of fobbing me off with "we don't support routers", like many ISPs do, all was sorted and it didn't cost me a penny in making the phone call! Well done NTL and thank you

Edit: Just hope I don't have this problem again tomorrow!!

It's nice to see a post in appreciation of the help given by an ISP. Usually on here, you see only complaints and grumbles! Praise where it's due is a good thing, I think.

Hi Hello_There. I agree with you about NTL. They have always been most helpful and, if you are prepared to 'chat'. you can get some good deals. I've been on their 1mb broadband for the last 6 months for £9.99p a month, but following the recent speedtest link (published in WUforums) I found I was only getting around 500kbps average. I rang up to complain, with the result that I'm now on their 2mb broadband, for a free-trial for 3 months (to "see if I like it" the lad said).

I've recently run the speedtest a few times and I'm getting 1800+kbps regularly - all for £9.99p a month. In 3 months time I shall 'argue' again and see what I can negotiate.

'Ere, you be careful, my lad! I'm paying £24.99 for my 2mb and I wasn't put on this earth to subsidise your reckless surfing habits! You start paying the going rate else I'll send the wife round and YOU can pay the Sainsburys bills.

Hi Greysts. Sounds as if it would be 'Hospital Bills' more than Sainsburies. . Ring 'em up and 'chunter' about anything and I bet tens you'ld get something off. Or maybe it's because I sound more old and decrepit than you and they feel sympathetic.

Rather interesting....when I went to my beautician the other day (blush blush!!), she told me that both her and her sister in law rang NTL to say they were cancelling and transferring to TalkTalk. They both came off the phone with some good deals from NTL, one of whom is saving £30 per month overall. I'm plucking up the courage to ring them myself, although I want to keep my 2MB connection.

The problem I've got is that my normal t/p line will only support a 1mb connection and NTL will know that, so threatening a move to another supplier will simply result in me getting less that what I've got now.

The only reason I haven't phoned them as yet is that I don't want them to cancel!! I did have the £24.99 package £10 cheaper each month for a year, I negotiated with them after my move and asked what deal they would give me after being a long standing customer with five accounts at my previous address!

greysts I also pay £24.99 a month to NTL, I agree we shouldn't be subsidising complainers who try it on! And most of us are pensioners anyway, without a lot of cash to throw around. Everyone should pay the same for the same speed, so it's time NTL reduced their charges in line with other BB suppliers. I would be happy paying £20 if it was across the board for all on 2mb.

Aw Ellen ! Don't make me feel bad. I'm a pensioner too and I think NTL are well-off enough to offer me a deal without penalising others. All ISPs will have to think about their rates anyway, in the face of the new TalkTalk package.

if you think you can get a better deal from them, phone the sales department and ask.

i told them i was thinking of downgrading my broadband (2mb) to the 1mb service so i'd stilll have the same speed as i have now when they upgrade and save myself a fiver they offered my free evening and weekend calls nationwide instead of the local one i had, they also said there would be no connection charge and they also gave me a £5 discount for 12months on my total package to boot

I'm getting 4MB Ntl Broadband for £13.99 a month purely because we have 3 services ie TV (Family pack and Sports), Talk 24 Unlimited (Local and National), 4MB Broadband, its a loyalty thing apparently after threatening to cancel the service .

There are a lot of Ntl Customers with 10MB Broadband paying around £17 a month for 10MB! Evidence of this is here Ntl:hell.co.uk

I cant say I would use the words Ntl and praise in the same sentence. Ntl and slimey yes. They will offer you a better price should you threaten to leave or say you are not happy paying ex ammount when you can get the same for less.

A lot of there customer service people are compulsive liars I have found who try and make out things like "one moment sir I will just put you're cable telephone number in the TalkTalk website service tool and tell you that you can not get TalkTalk"

Yes, that was tryed with me. Also I just love there fobbing off - Ive heard a lot of it. There customer service is very poor I have found. I feel sorry for people who can be taken advantage of by them - dont let it happen! take advantage of them! They will rather have a customer paying less than not have you're custom same as most companies unless its BT who dont want any customers

NTL customer service have set offers to try and winkle customers to stay. When you want to be cut off you get put through to what they call "Customer Relations" another term I would put it as Customer Retentions where you are offered "proper deals" to stay. It is sad but very true. Thats how they operate.

Also, they will have to continue to act on there pricing as other isp's are very competative, plus with Sky you get loads more channels minus the typical "freezing" problem when trying to change tv channels that is experienced by thousands of ntl customers. No its not you're set top box and they dont have to called out a so called engineer to fix it. Its just another nthell nightmare you're experiencing

i had NTL 4Mb before i moved house, i just signed up for 2Mb in the new house, every time i checked the speed the most i was getting was 1 Mb, i rang them today and asked them to check my speed as i should be getting 2Mb, after a minute on hold he told me to reboot the modem as they had just upgraded it, i now am getting 4Mb.. they needn't try to bill me for it, my contract says 2 Mb.

Nice one Bri, from what I read most parts of the country don't get their 1Mb upgraded to 2Mb until September. Must have misunderstood what you were saying,NTL staff member obviously poorly trained. As you said: your contract says 2Mb...

All 2mb NTL contracts got a free upgrade to 4mb in the last 6 to 8 weeks. You're only getting what all NTL customers should now have.

oh well, 4Mb is better than 2Mb.

you can't win all the time, but just once would be nice.

If you pay £17.99 you will be getting 1Mb soon to be upgraded to 2Mb. If you pay £24.99 you will be getting 4Mb. Not taking into account any offers or deals they might have offered you.

Another praise for NTL!!

They have reverted to free phone numbers for customers with an NTL telephone line.

Dial 150 for customer services
Dial 151 for faults
