word doc gone mad

i am unable to open any word docs.re booted pc several times and nothing has happened. i was filling out a word doc included in a e mail which has been scanned,i saved it and since then word will not work on my pc.
i hope ive not lost what ive saved.
any ideas plz

just re installed office xp and still cant open any word docs

Scan your system for viruses and spyware. This may help.

Serach your hard disk for a file called normal.dot and delete it.

but it still wont work



have checked for virus's etc...nowt
un installed and re installed again. have e mailed a word doc and it has worked on another pc but still wont open up on mine

well ive tried the microsoft registry resolvement and that hasnt worked so i did a full system restore to this time last week(before the auto update installed itself)
and guess what ......... im up and running.

hurrah

but ive switched off auto updates from microsoft to prevent it happening again.

will this cause me more probs????

Yes it will. Microsoft issue Critical updates because that's what they are, critical. You need them all.

yes but the last one did all the damage and bother.

why would i risk another download of trub from them??

or are they aware of the bloody inconveince they are causing.

so if i download a new update there shouldnt be a problem??

the last critical updates have caused some trouble from other peoples postings that ive read.

Your choice at the end of the day. If you don't install them you leave your PC open to infection.

I had a slight problem following the recent updates. When I booted up, a message appeared announcing that Windows couldn't write to the Task Launcher and I might like to reinstall Works. Well, I didn't like that idea at all, so I opened all the things that were usually on the Task Launcher and it's been fine ever since...fingers crossed!
