I just finished using the "Cleanup" program to clean up temp files. When done it restarted and the original XP toolbar and windows were changed to the classic style. I tried to restore it before the incident happened but to no avail.
Any help will be appreciated if someone can help me get my original XP settings back.

Hi anastasia, you can change the style from Start | Control | Display and select Appearance tab.

Right click anywhere on the desktop, scroll down to Properties, this will bring up your display properties. Then click on appearance, then Windows & Buttons and then select Windows XP Style, Click Apply, then OK and you're done.

Thanks for your help but I have tried that. It seems that all my XP styles have gone, it only has an option for "Windows classic style". How do i get them back??

Failing that, what program did you use to clean up your PC?

It was called Cleanup. I got it from here when I had a virus problem ages ago and when I used it everything was alright until I used it the other day. It's meant to remove temp files.
I've tried everything I know to try change the taskbar back to XP style but I have no more options to choose to change it to XP style

Right, the Cleanup program you used, should have a back up function, you will need to use that to back up your clean up and then hopefully this will give you back what you deleted. BTW do you have a link for said program?

Sorry it doesn't have a backup option. i think it might hae deleted something from the registry but not quite sure. This is where I got it from www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/.

OK try this.
Go to Control Panel Administrative Tools, Services, and make sure "Themes are turned on and set this service to Automatic.

Ok, more than likely your c:\Windows\Resources\Themes\Luna\luna.msstyles files has been corrupted.
In order to fix this you will need your Windows XP Install CD. Make a new folder in the root of your c: drive (eg. c:\temp). This is where we are going to extract a good luna.msstyles file. Put in your XP Install CD. If it autoruns just close it.
Go to a command prompt. (eg. Start, Run, Type command, and hit enter.) You should now see something like this C:\DOCUME~1\youruser>. Type in the name of the CD Drive you put the disk in followed by a colon (eg. D:). Now for the fun part. Type in cd i386. Now type in expand luna.ms_ c:\temp. You should now have expanded the file into your temp folder. Type exit to close the command prompt. Go to your temp folder and rename luna.ms_ to luna.msstyles. Double click on it to set your appearance to XP to see if it works. If it does copy the file to your c:\windows\resources\themes\luna folder.

It was all fine until I got up to the bit where you "expand luna.ms c:\temp" and the msg I got was "can't open input file luna.ms". So I just tried to copy and paste the file to the temp folder I created and it was fine. I renamed it and opened it and only had the option for "windows classic style".
Help help help!!!

Have a look here in Kellys Korner . . . . . > Why does Windows XP Style change to Windows Classic Style? . click on the 5th entry down using Internet Explorer.

You don't have to do anything. Hopefully the edit will correct the problem on reboot. Kelly Theriot (Kelly's Korner) is a much respected and highly regarded Microsoft XP expert and her edits and scripts among other tweaks etc help folks the world over. While no guarantee is given or offered to resolve your particular issue, if you don't try, you'll never know.
If you feel uncomfortable altering the registry, make a back up first to refere back to if necessary:
Start > Run > Type Regedit > OK > File > Export > Chose a location > Give it a name, say date > Save. Reversal is by Importing in the same file menu.
