safe mode wont even start, i get disk-read error.
so i am trying to use xp disk to repair windows, which i have already had to do once before and it worked fine... this time it asks me for administrator password, which it didn't ask me the first time.. i have never known my administrator password or changed it, but i think i need this to recover... if i don' tknow it do i have to do a clean install or what? god i hate my computer

On most systems the Administrator password is blank so when asked for the password just press the Enter key. Having said that, if this is the second time you've done this I would suggest your hard disk is nearing the ned of it's useful life. You might want to think about getting a new one.

Have you considered it may not be the computer and it could be the operating system you are using. Windows is a far from stable operating system and is prone to problems as a quick read through these forums will show.

All operating systems have problems, But some are better than others. just because the majority of people use Windows it don't necessarily make it the best.

Like you I used to get very frustrated with my computer until somebody introduced me to Linux and now I wonder why I persisted with Windows for so long.

I know this is not going to directly help the problem in hand and 'greysts' advice is worth a look. But if you are in it for the long run its an angle worth considering.
