Hi My site uses php and a mysql database and allows users to print off unique tags to stick on their belongings. If they get lost and someone finds them, they can vist the site to send an instant message to the owner.
The idea is still being developed but I'd like to get your opinions.
see what you think....

Thanks for the comments. I want to develope the idea and site but i was curious to see if the concept/idea would be useful to people. the idea is to use the internet as a security tool for belongings so that it's free and easy for lost/found items to get back to their owners. I intend to give users a choice of lable designs and wording so that they can choose whether or not to offer a reward etc. The lable system too will be developed to offer a greater choice of design and printing options.
I would value any and all opinions.
thanks

I think it's an excellent idea and I hope you do well with it. Your site's easy to navigate too. Good luck! Madeline.

Great idea, suggest owners could offer a reward via site and tag? Might already be something on the site about it but if so did not find it easily. Rewards would encourage returns

Great idea, the only thing that i would say was to use a little less humour. I wasn't sure if you were serious or not! Otherwise good luck with this! Iain..

I don't agree; I liked the humorous touches and I don't think they were overdone at all. It never occurred to me that this was anything other than a serious site offering a useful service. Madeline.

I was trying to think where I put all the humour you mentioned. The only place I could see was in the FAQ page in the part where I made suggestions on what you could 'tag'.
Anyway, many thanks for the feedback. I am currently working on a system that will let users edit the text and look of the labels. I want to allow them to make the labels look as appealing as possible instead of using bog standard text.
thanks again fro the feedback. D

As I said, it was humorous touches, not major comedy! If I ever went anywhere, I'd use your site. Madeline.

I think it is a great idea and it could have lots of potential.
There are posibilities for you to let people register then you print off the tags on Vinyl rather than paper. The stickers will then be a lot more permanent. I have just had some vinyl stickers made and they were about £1.20 each but they are large.
You would only need small ones for your purpose, you could get a firm to print off the vinly stickers for you then add your mark up and then sell them for a reasonable price, these would be far better than paper labels that will not last at all long on anything that is moved a lot or taken out doors.
Your site is a great idea!
Best of luck with it.

Thanks for the kind comments. I was a bit miffed when i read the latest Webuser issue (140) and saw a site which is basically the same as my site only they charge £7 a label!! it's a slick site which obviously has money behind it but I cannot see people coughing up that much for no real service. they say that their is a reward of £20 for people who hand in lost items - actually it's £20 of free labels (which again is not a reward IMO). I suppose they have the ability to create marketing ploys that look like the end user gets a good deal. However I can't see any actual difference between my site and this one. If i charged £7 for each member, it would be possible for me to do what ultimatehandyman said above and provide a pack of vinyl labels which could be put on dozens (not just one) item.
I think free is best.
what's the consensus on this?
the other site is Removed dead link. (oh at the time of writing this site was not working - mine is ta )
