ink refill
      #268438 - Mon Mar 20 2006 12:50 AM

I got a Dell ink cartridge refilled, and very good too - but the small printer screen does not sense the refilled cartridge and shows that cartridge is empty requesting that the select button be pressed. This means that every time you print direct from pc you have to get up and press button. I don't suppose there is an answer to this except not to buy Dell in future, after all they did not mention that I would be tied to them for the life of the printer.

I don't know the answer to this, but you might like to visit the Dell Printer forums where you could either do a search for an answer or register and post a query yourself.

Hi cauldbum. Jr inks make something called a Universal Zapit which resets a 'chipped' ink cartridge. The one ive linked to is for an epsom printer but im sure they will do one for a Dell. Unfortunatly im on my way out so i dont have time to check properly but JR Inks have a free phone number 0800 808 7777 so even if they dont do one for your printer, im sure they will point you in the right direction as ive found their tech help amongst the best ive dealt with.
Hope this helps.

P.S, hope your feeling better Madeline

We were all learners once and still continue to learn, that's what these forums are for. A lot of what I know, I've learnt here.

Unfortunately the Dell 942 printer does not have a chip that can be reset, it only has a copper strip that obviuously tells the printer that it is a new cartridge, but this can't be reset. . Life is going to be hell now that we will have to press the select button everytime we want a print, THIS IS VERY SELFISH OF DELL, it is tantamount to bying a car and only being able to refill it with the car manufacturers petrol. Unless somebody lets Dell know about this it will be bye bye Dell.
Thanks the_DADDY and Madeline

Im in total agreement thats outrageous. Im lucky in the respect ive always bought printers that you can get 3rd party refils for
May i recomend a Canon or a HP for your next printer.

I'm sorry to hear that you can't get this sorted. I still think it would be worth your while to go to the link I gave, register and post your problem there. It's quite possible that someone else has experienced the same difficulty and may be able to give you a satisfactory solution.

I have an HP1410 all-in-one and the original cartridges can be bought online for £20 a set I also use a program called inksaver to save ink on all printing except photos you can buy it on disc from here and save even more money if you refill your own cartridges.
Also aren't the Dell printers rebadged Lexmarks and another brand I cannot remember

And I thought Epson could be tiresome! Apart from the price of the cartridges, I have never had a single problem with my Epson printer in over 3 years. Looks like you'll have to keep pressing the "Select" button, cauldbum, unless you get a more helpful reply.

Josh3Hughes : No wonder you use these people and epson, but it sounds as if pushing the select button will go on. What amazes me is that Dell post items about themselve on the Dell Forum but do not take cognisance of peoples dillemas as ongoing customers and help them, I can assure you that lots of their customers are in need of assistance. There is no point going to the troubleshooting or problem site of Dell as the the people in dire need will not find the answer there , it is just the normal everday startup type of questions - nothing involved. I'm sure it would pay Dell and other company's to actually enter these forums and recognise their customers plight ! Cheers
