Hello,
I have a problem with my dial-up internet connection, sometimes it works fine and at other times there is no dialling noise from my external modem and no connection is made. When this happens, if I look in the modem properties it says 'Modem removed'. Sometimes if I then switich the computer off the modem miraculously comes back and everything is fine again. I have been in touch with my ISP and they verified that the connection was OK. My computer's operating system is Windows XP Home. Web browser is Internet Explorer 6. External modem is Acer 56 surf USB. I downloaded a modem driver update in an 'application' type file that I then opened but I don't know how to update the actual driver. Can anyone please advise me how to do this and suggest any other things that I can try. Thanks a lot, John.

Try going to Control Panel>System*>Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager". Then click on the + sign by "Modems", right click on your modem entry and either choose "Update driver" or "Properties">Driver tab and update your driver there. *If you're using Category View in your Control Panel, click on Performance and Maintenance and then on System.
