I am running an ACER 4100 laptop Travelmate series. I have recently carried out a thorough cleanup (Ccleaner), virus check (Avast) of this computer, also run all the necessarly XP updates (running XP Pro). The computer had managed to accumulate all sorts of Trojans and spyware - all have now been obliterated.
However - now, on startup, it says it has found new hardware and wants to install the software for the Mass Storage Controller. Running a Belarc adviser audit, I think it may be referring to the Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 266F. But I cannot locate any drivers - nor can I install the software automatically - either via the computer itself or by going online to search for the installer / driver. Please help. I can supply the Belarc Adviser info if necessary.
I have tried uninstalling this device from device manager, I have tried telling the system I don't want to be reminded, but it seems clear this piece of hardware is part of the computer yet the software to install it (the *inf) file is unavailable .. so I'm hoping that as part of the cleanup it wasn't removed - but it may have been corrupted by the amount of trojans in the system earlier.
Any advice gratefully received.
