NTL Help!
      #259831 - Wed Feb 08 2006 07:31 PM

Hi i have NTL 2 mg broadband. Just yesterday i found i could not sign in to Ebay as the sign in page hangs and will not load but can view all ebays other pages. The other sites i cannot sign into are paypal vodaphone and a spam site i use spam arrest. I can get in to by bank first trust which has a https:// at the start of its web address so i am thinking if the others are secure web sites why cant i get to the sign in page ? Anyway connect NTL they told me there is a fault in my area Belfast i thought great now i know why But this is still going on and when i connected them again and again one tells there is a problem and another tells me its fixed and another it might be your PC. I have 3 PC two with xp and one on 98 they are all doing the same thing. I am hoping someone can help as i do not want to as a last resort reboot my PC thanks Colin

Do these three PCs connect through a router?

Yes they are through a router. Just off the phone again with NTL this time i was told. Right click Internet explorer go to property's connections LAN tick use a proxy server give me a IP address to put in it and would you believe it worked. Then told me to remove it in a week or so and by then original settings should be fine ? well i am just happy its working at the minute to next time Why did they not tell me that first time and not 5 calls later

the ntl bit is easy to answer, some staff are better than others and some have more up to date info than others, therefore sometimes you will get your problems sorted straight away other times you have to try and try again.

have you installed and ran the ntl broadband medic? i know some people don't like it but i've found it helpful and it usually fixes my connection error without a reboot of my set top box

Can I check what you've done. You have three PCs connected to a router and that router is connected to the NTL box, yes? You have set up a proxy server on one of those PCs but you have left it connected to the router, yes?

Hi to the first question I did try the NTL broadband medic and did not like it. My 3 PC are yes connect to the router and mine is the main one. I will have to do the same with them to be able to get in to secure websites. I did try changing the ip before phoning NTL as i have a couple of ip address on a note pad from last time i had other problems but this was a new address from the ones i have on paper

I don't know which router you have but you should be able to put the proxy server address into that and leave the PCs to use DHCP and get their IP address from the router.
