A Strange Tale (To Me Anyway) To Tell
      #259433 - Mon Feb 06 2006 11:20 PM

Hi,

After a long time making my mind up I have decided to change my ISP from Wanadoo to Demon.net as I was on Wanadoo's unlimited account but was only getting a half mb connection and as I download a lot I wanted to increase the rate to 2mbps.

To do this on wanadoo I would have to change the package which would limit how much I could download a month, so I started looking around and found Demon via one of the other links in this forum.

The package I've seen is perfect for me - £19.99 a month, 2mbps (alright I won't get that speed but it's still going to be faster than the one I am on), and it's a unlimited account (brill).

I signed up last thursday and had a email from them on the friday to say that they would be checking the line to determind if the line was compatible. Now the problem - I received another email later on the friday to say that the test had come back and I had a incompatible product on my line (news to me) or that there is a fault with the line. They suggested that I contact BT and sort out the problem.

I contacted BT on the Friday evening and spoke to a helpful asssistance who went through my records and informed me (something I already knew) that I had no products on my line.

I then put in a request for a check on the line to see if it had a fault, The test came back with the result "No Fault Found".

I re-emailed Demon to tell this on the Saturday, this afternoon I received another email from them informing me that I have a incompatible product on the line.

Now the question - The only two things I can think of that might be this so called "incompatible product" are

1) My number is ex-directory or

2) At present I still have my Wanadoo Broadband connected although I took the modem out of the telephone socket.

Does anyone have another idea's as I will be phoning BT again in the morning and would like to try as many options as possible to sort this thing out.

Apologises for the long winded post but I had to get everything in.

Thanks in advance

oldfield

Your 'incompatible product' is Wanadoo Broadband. You can't simply switch BB providers without getting a MAC code from your current provider. Wanadoo will give you a MAC and you in turn must give that to Demon. Have you done so yet?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Greysts,

Thanks for your reply, No I didn't get a MAC code as when I went to the FAQ section on Demon I came across this question -

Q. Can I migrate from my existing ISP?

A. If you wish to buy the Demon Home Broadband service your existing broadband service will need to be cancelled with your current ISP and then a new contract taken out with us.

You were right to say that it was Wanadoo and its now sorted as although I phoned them last thursday and was told that the account was cancelled it hadn't been but it is as of today, although the woman at wanadoo told me it would take upto 10 days to clear the phone line (?).

Thank you for confirming which one it could be.
