Media Player Auto Connecting
      #2484 - Tue Jul 08 2003 10:58 PM

I have a very new ver of win xp. When win media player plays my WMV film clips which I daisy chain together it tries to connect to the net at the end of each clip. This interrupts continuous viewing and is annoying. I have a few months older ver of win xp on my laptop and this doesnt happen. What tick is in what box which is causing the latest WMPlayer to try to do its own unwanted thing. I dont want to connect to the net at the end of each clip

Hi Phil,

I'm using WMP9 so I'm not sure this will apply to older versions, but;

Go to Options then select the Media Library tab. Here you can de-select 'Automatic media information updates for files' tick-box. That should leave you in peace to watch your film clips uninterrupted.

Good Luck!

No it doesn't. See my posting a bit further down the page. I can't wait to get back to WMP 7.1. Version 9, to use the technical term, is c**p (imho).

I've tried to uninstall wmp9 with no success as it isn't listed in add/remove???. So i tried to remove it from the c: drive but when i try to install mp7 it tells me i already have the latest version (which will play nowt!). Can anyone tell me how to permanently delete it, i don't want to resort to system restore. xp home.

Ultra Win Cleaner 2000 will get rid of it for you. I've done that, but when I try to install WMP version 7.1 it goes right through the installation process and then says it's failed and I need to reboot.

I've even tried going back to version 6 and then upgrading to 7, but it still won't work, so it looks as if I'm stuck with version 9 until I do a complete Windows reinstall later in the year.

That's going to be fun, going back 2½ years (OEM disk) and then setting everything up again, repartitioning and reinstalling all that software, but I've got all the M$ updates saved to CD, and at least it will give me a nice clean setup to start clogging up again.

This time though I'm planning to make a backup on a nice new (second) HD, so when disaster strikes I'll be able to get back to my nice clean installation.

If you are running XP or ME
You can uninstall WMP,
Go to Start | Run
type in or copy the following

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\Windows\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

Some WinXP users (NTFS) MAY need to use this

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection C:\WINNT\INF\wmp.inf,Uninstall

Windows 98 and 2000 users should go to Add/Remove Programs to remove their copy

Those XP users who DO remove WMP 9 will have to download WMP7 from the Micro$oft site or re-extract WMP8 from their windows XP Disk

Thanks for that, Puta. So there is hope after all.
