Browseui.dll coming up computer not starting
      #243139 - Tue Dec 06 2005 11:32 AM

Everytime I try to start my computer it comes up with blue screen, and message saying, 'Explorer.exe unable to locate component' 'This application has failed to start because Browseui.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem'

I have no mouse pointer, and no task bar at the bottom.

Please help!!!!
Thank you, Amanda

Can you get your PC to start in Safe Mode? (Press the F8 key at boot and choose Safe Mode)

If you can, see if the Start button shows.

If it does, Press the Windows key and the R key at the same time
Type in the following:

regsvr32 browseui.dll

and press enter

Reboot your computer after a message appears

If that fails can you post back which version of Windows you are running

A lot of people have this problem and I haven't yet found anyone with the solution so here it is:
IF you have Mozilla Firefox (Internet Explorer wont run if browseui.dll is missing) then:
Use control-alt-delete to run task manager. Go to File, Run, Browse and navigate your way to firefox.exe ("C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"). Once Firefox is running, go to this address: http://www.dlldump.com/download-dll-file...8/download.html

Download and save browseui.dll to your c:\windows\system32\ folder.

Reboot your computer.

If you don't have Firefox, go to a different computer and download browseui.dll onto a disk. Use control-alt-delete to run task manager. Go to File, Run, Browse and navigate your way to the disk. Right click on browseui.dll and click copy. Navigate to the c:\windows\system32\ folder, right click and click paste. Reboot your computer.

I have just used this to solve the same problem myself.

Cheers,
MLB

MonkeyLoverB,
It's 6 months since you posted a response to the "browseui.dll" error problem, and I just found it and used it to solve the problem on my 1 day old computer. Thank you so much!!!!!!! I found other suggestions in other forums, but yours was the only solution that worked.

HUGS to YOU!

Carrie

This actually fixes the problem, but I ran into some problems that I thought I would share.

I couldn't use Firefox because I couldn't get an Internet connection and my laptop (which is where I was having the browseui.dll issue) does not have a functioning drive to insert a disk or CD. This lead me to use an external harddrive, onto which I saved the browseui.dll file (the one you linked to) and then connected it to my laptop.

Now the next problem came up. I couldn't see this file when I went to browse for it via the TaskManager (ctrl+alt+del -> TaskManager) to copy it. So, I ran an MS-DOS prompt instead (file, run -> type in "command" -> click ok -> MS-DOS prompt opens) and copied the files from there. At the prompt screen type "copy f:\browseui.dll c:\windows\system32\browseui.dll" (alter f:\ to wherever you saved the browseui.dll -- in my case it was the top directory of my external harddrive) and press enter. It should tell you it copied the file and then you can restart.

Maybe this helps someone who doesn't get it worked out with just MonkeyLoverB's response.

For those of you that cannot find the Browseui.dll file after you have downloaded it to a Removable disk... Go to My Computer and click the arrow where it says programs, change it to All Files. Then click open, you should see your removable disk there and click that. Then find the file you downloaded which would be the Browseui file Right click it and copy that, then go to the system32 folder, someone posted how to get to it on this thread I believe. Then simply paste it in there to the System 32 folder and reboot your computer =)

My father and I had the problem of not being able to find our removable disk until he rebooted from Safe Mode, because we tried to go into safe mode to fix the problem but then rebooted in regular startup. My dad found the removable disk in My Computer he fiddled around with it and told me that this is how he did it. What happened was when we first installed the file on our disc, we tried going to the cd drive but it said CD drive D not accessable. So then we wondered well why ? But my father had the idea of using his removable Disk to fix the problem. Yeah our family is really technical lol just kidding. When we originally cliked OPEN on the My Computer category of the Run process from the Task Manager it wouldn't do anything just a blank space in My Computer when we clicked open but when we used the removable disk it found it, we clicked on Open which is what my directions to fixing this tiny problem as you fix the Browseui problem above... Hope this helps ya'll.

hi
I have the same problem here( browseui.dll issue)
I have tried to follow the steps that you gave in this forum but
how do I navigate to the c:\windows\system32\folder?
in fact I managed to go to c:\windows\system32 without the "folder" at the end.
if I type with the "folder", it says file "folder" was not found!
without the folder, there are so many of them, how do I know which one
so how do I do now?

thank you very much for your help

sauphi

You don't need the "\folder" just go to C:\Windows\system32

I had this problem. I fixed by going onto another computer (which doesn't have the problem) and going on Task Manager.
Click on run and type BROWSEUI.dll. A screen should come up.

Copy everything on that page and paste onto a memory stick.

Go back on your computer and use the Task Mangaer to navigate your way to the memory stick.

Copy the folders again.

Go to Task Manager and run c:\windows\system32\ paste the files there
restart
