A friend, with the aid of Pinnacle has created two VCD's, we both use Windows XP Home and Media Player 9. Both VCD's play without problem on his computer, only one will play on mine. Not only will the offending VCD not play in MP9, (or Power DVD), it's stops the program from running and I have to bring up Task Manager to escape.
In addition, they both play in his Asda bought DVD Player, whereas in my inexpensive Naiko 1170 all I get is 'Disc Error' 'PBC On'.I can't see any reference to PBC in the instructional.
We are a couple of virtual novice's at this and are stumped at why this should be so. Would anyone care to help us out please?

Not all stand alone dvd players can handle vcd's. Check your manual to see if the vcd format is supported. You should be able to turn off PBC (play back control) somewhere in your menu, this may allow you to watch the vcd's. As for them not working on your pc, I'm stumped.

Thanks Sarge, I'll be checking out your help on the DVD player, appreciate it.
As for the computer, the mystery goes on, have had a few suggestions, codecs not compatible, try the CDRW Drive, maybe the CDRom is not reading it. So far MP9 refuses to play ball.
These are two Mpeg2 format on the same quality discs, there's no obvious reason why one can play without problem and the other won't.

Are you sure they are mpeg2 , as that would make them SVCD or CVD. I don't think media player supports mpeg2. Additional software required I think.

I'll verify that Sarge, I'm sure they are, unfortunately my friend has taken the culprit away to test on someone else's computer.
I'm more involved transferring LP's to CD and this little incident is distracting. I shall return with an update, stay close Sarge

The VCD's are back with me now, the unplayable one is in Mpeg 2 Sarge, not only were you right it will not play in Media Player, it screwed up my entire system. I have had to shutdown and access via 'Last Known Good Configuration' to come on here.
As far as I'm concerned that's it, this disc is going nowhere near my computer or the DVD Player ever again.
