I have just networked my desktop with my notebook for about the third time in 2 years and still have same time consuming problem !!!! I have networked them both with 2 USB tyype hubs ,not very fast but ok for my 10 x 's broadband!! Running xp on both. I have zone alam freebie firewall in place and have just configured desktop from scratch ie xp reloaded and all programmes including Z/A which as been on notebook for a while!! Anyway hooked up broadband with desktop and because networkin is relatively easy with xp wizard and usb,s.The only problem is, notebook cannot access desktop and vice/versa until I totally shutdown Z/A on desktop!!! Can any one tell me what problem this is because I have tried making the pop up, with blocked site. A trusted zone but no JOY !!!
IS this safe or can anyone point me in the right direction !!!!

As far as I'm aware, you can not network using USB. You need to use a cross-over ethernet cable or a router. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I stand corrected , you can network using a USB-USB bridged cable. In response to your orginal post have you tried going in to ZA, firewall, zones and adding the IP address of the computer that needs access as trusted. Do the same for the other pc.

To find the ip address of each machine, click on 'start' then 'run'. In the box type command and then click on ok . A DOS window will open, type ipconfig/all and take a note of the ip address. Type exit to close the DOS window. Go in to Zonealarm and click on the firewall tab on the left. Then click on the zones tab at the top. Click on edit and select ip address. Select trusted for the zone, then enter the ip address for the machine that needs to connect to the machine you are working on now. Give it a description if you wish. Now do the exact same for the other machine. If you are using a wireless router you may need to use ip range instead of ip address, as the router assigns an address when each machine connects to it.
