violinandviola.co.uk up for review
      #238335 - Mon Nov 14 2005 09:46 PM

Hi there,

I set up this site for my father-in-law. It's been online since early 2000, and I feel like I could do with giving it a bit of a revamp as it feels rather old and tired now.

Before I do so, I just thought I'd run it through a Web User review panel first.

The site is a personal site which was set up to try and bring together various things which people who like string music would find useful. Possibly the most popular bit is the section offering free sheet music downloads. It also has sections where you can search for string teachers / shops / events etc.

The URL is:

http://www.violinandviola.co.uk/

Possibly the main drawback is that the homepage is hosted in a different place to all of the rest of the site, since we got the violinandviola domain years ago when freenetname were giving people a free domain when they signed up with them as an ISP.

Since I have since got into MySQL and ASP, I had to host that somewhere else, as freenetname don't offer that kind of hosting. So anyway, the result of my verbose waffle here is to pre-empt any possible "why is the bulk of the site hosted on jimpix.co.uk and not violinandviola" questions.

Good grief, I really should get out more!

Many thanks

Jim

Gosh - I keep coming back to this post and waiting for somebody else to reply before me. Why does it need a revamp? Am I missing something?

I don't know really - I suppose I could waste countless hours moving over to CSS instead of using tables for layout.

Like I said, I should get out more. What does it matter anyway!!!

Thanks for replying though,

Jim

That's OK. I see that you have the site well optimised for search engines.

In the end, I redesigned it anyway:

It was more interesting than watching the telly!

Looks fantastic Jim. All of it is great but I do like the scrolable update box.
