What kit do I need to get a new Broadband connection from the downstairs living room, east part of the house, upstairs, west part of the house?
I know this must have been said a million times, so sorry in advance.

You need an extension socket, best bet go to somewhere like B&Q get some phone cable an extension socket and some cleats for the cable and a idc tool ( an inserta tool used to connect into the connectors on the bt socket known as insulation displacement tool), run the cable from you nearest socket or the main master socket in the house to where your pc is, try not to run it under the carpet where it can get walked on, now in each socket you will see numbered pins, all you need is numbers 2,3 and 5, connect the moslty blue to pin 2, mostly orange to pin 3, then the moslty white with blue line to pin 5, do this both ends and your done.

Don't get a cheap, thin extension cable because if it has to run too far you'll get problems. Get a BT quality cable, which is heavier. Look at your incoming line and you'll get an idea of the quality.

Thanks both for the replies... Is there a wire-less solution as a wire extension is not possible? Thanks, Mark.

Yes, fit a wireless modem/router (personally I like the Belkin ones) next to the phone socket, you need to initially set it up with an ethernet conenction, so you may need to temporarily move your computer there as well.
Then fit a wireless card in your computer, it can be PCI, USB, or PCMIA, then you can use your computer all over your house, including out in the garden.

I have the same problem, only on dial up at the moment but going onto broadband soon(I hope!) if you are using extension lead get a heavy duty twisted core extension lead, its big and black an ugly but it gets the job done, since i reconnected with this type it has not failed and my internet acces is far less prone to problems as well...hope you get it sorted JB
