How do I stop the Connect box appearing in OE?
      #234412 - Sun Oct 30 2005 11:47 AM

I have networked our PC's with a Belkin Router. I am on Broadband. Can you tell me why the old Connect box appears everytime I click on Send an email in Outlook Express? It doesn't appear when I use my Laptop... only on my Desktop. I have checked the settings everywhere I could think of to see what might be different on the desktop... But I can't find anything.

It's ok, try this, open Outlook Express, Click Tools | Options | Connection

In the Internet Connection Settings settings, click Change

Click the LAN Settings

Put a check Mark in Automatically detect Settings
Click OK etc

That should sort it

Thank you for your reply... However, for some unknown reason, your advice above hasn't worked??? Is there anything else you can think of? It doesn't really matter... it's just very annoying!!!!

Oh dear... it's just not working for me! It is still coming up... I have checked both my laptop and desktop and as far as I can see the settings are the same... but the stupid box doesn't pop up on the laptop! Confused? You bet I am!!!

In OE can you go to Tools, Accounts and click on the Mail tab. How many accounts are showing and if more than one, do you use them all?

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Two are showing... the one I use is set to Default .. Connection has Any. And the other has Dial up under the connection heading. It is really irritating me and must be boring you to death by now?!

In that case delete the account you don't use. The reason that you are getting the dial up box is that every 30 minutes (or what ever time you've set it to) OE will run though all the accounts you have set up and try to download mail. If one of those accounts is a dial-up it will try and use that as well as the Broadband connection.
