NTL and routers
      #234333 - Sun Oct 30 2005 03:07 AM

Does anybody know which wireless routers NTL support? would they all work ok? I have been looking at Netgear and Belkin wireless routers.

Simple answer to this one --- none

NTL support windows and mac os on single machines only. They don't support networks or the linux operating system (luckily I use both...LOL)

Any router will be suitable for your needs ( I use a Belkin F5D-5231-4 wired router), just don't expect any help from your isp when you have problems.

Any cable router then? there seems to be loads of ADSL routers but not that many cable ones.

I'm not sure what rigdokta says is strictly true. I use 3 PC's on Telewest, connected wirelessly through a cable modem/router. I use this one with one of these in each PC.

Contact NTL and ask what they support.

i've been using a netgear wireless router (mr314) for 4 or more years now with my ntl broadband without any problems.i have 3 pc's hardwired to it and use the laptop on wireless. i would expect netgears latest models to be even better

I think the point trying to be made waggers, is if you have trouble with your router and ultimately it effects your ability to use your NTL connection correctly, NTL will not help you at all.
In other words they don't and won't support you or the router in question unless it is an approved router which NTL supply.

This will apply to all the broadband providers also.

I was just thinking - it kind of resembles a womans handbag Still it seems good.

i guess i should have worded my post alittle clearer, when i said without any problems,i really meant with the router or ntl. i have had problems with ntl's cable modem's and they have come and replaced 3 now,the last one a couple of years ago which was a new model, each time nothing was mentioned at all about my router or setup, they even went so far as to ensure my whole network worked each time. i live in bedfordshire and the service i get here is excellent, whether it's a tv or broadband fault, they've come out within 24hrs

just to add to my last post. of course if i had a router fault i would'nt expect them to come and fix that,i would do that. by plugging the modem directly into my pc (bypassing my router) would show me what was at fault, which i have done in the past, each time proving there equipment was at fault.
