Hi guys. I have recently finished constructing my first attempt at a personal web site. As a 51 year old with no computer training of any sort, I feel like I have really achieved something. The site informs the reader of my past and current activities and circumstances. There is also some extensive information on my travels 'Down Under'. I really would appreciate it if you could have a look at www.redvfr.plus.com and let me know what you think. Thanks guys. Mike.

Hi Mike
You've got some very good info on there and the symptoms seem to match my own perfectly. I've been battling with the Dr's and hospital for 6 years now and we just keep going round in circles.
I was taken very seriously ill about 8 years ago. I was infected all the way through, from my mouth to my, well you know what I'm getting at. I very nearly died. I have not been right since and then 6 years ago I collapsed at work and in the next 2 weeks lost over 2.5 stones in weight.
Since the collapse I can't do anything at all and I'm housebound. Reading about the symptoms of CFS I think I shall ask to be referred to a viral specialist.
I'll have a more thorough look at your site later today. The subject matter of your site is going to keep me busy because I want to get better.
Now I'm off for a look at http://www.cfs-news.org/ for more ammo.
Thanks for posting.

'...in the world. it is with a little smile...'
'...expect from a honda. the fourth trip was...'
Just read the section on your good self and spotted these minor typos, so just thought I would point them out for you.
'...sorry neighbors. Enjoyed the music...' - here's another from a diary entry.
Typos can let a site down, so just be sure to double check it before sending it live. Oh no...I've just spotted one on my own homepage....damn it!!
I like the site and it is easy to look at what you want. For a first attempt it is a great effort.
If I were to make some suggestions for future developments I would look to lose the frames as they can be frustrating having lots of different windows on one screen. Also if you are looking to be Googled then frames can throw the little bots off course!
On a more personal level I am currently thinking of moving into the two wheeled for of transport. I went on the back of my old housemates CBR600 a couple of times and just loved it. It's just so expensive to get the licence!
Best of luck with everything.
Mark.

Love the site - great job. I must admit I do not like frames but in the end it is content which makes you want to bookmark a web site and your site has got tons of interesting content.
Have fun Mark

Thanks for that guys. I have taken on board your comments and have actually updated the site already. Typo's now sorted, frames removed, site looking much better. Thanks again, it's this sort of constructive comment that I need to be able to develop my site. Mike.

These forums are a fantastic resource and everyone is really helpful and friendly. They have proved invaluable over the last year.
Not sure what you mean about the frames having gone though, they're still there?

I could be labouring under a little confusion here. By frames I thought you guys meant the thick borders I had inserted around the images. I now guess that is not what you were referring to. Sorry to be ignorant but could you please explain. Mike.

Okay guys, I think I've got it sorted (even though I still feel a bit of an idiot). I read up on the NetFusion 7 help files and found out what 'frames' are. Site now updated and looking heaps better. Thanks again. Mike.

Hi,
it's a nice site - it's nice to see a site which feels very personal, and which has lots of interesting content on.
I have a few suggestions which might improve things a bit.
1. The images on the right, contained in this page:
http://www.redvfr.plus.com/html/right_defaultmasterborder.html
Don't seem to add a lot to things, and might be a bit confusing because I thought they were links, and tried to click on them.
If you got rid of the above page, and had this page as your homepage instead:
http://www.redvfr.plus.com/html/body_my_partner__tina.html
(i.e. rename it to "index.htm" or whatever your home / index page is called)
Then you would have no frames at all, which is even better!
2. There are lots of interesting photos on the site, but the way you have displayed them makes them look squashed or distorted, and a bit grainy.
This is why:
The html to display an image is like this:
<IMG ID="Picture83" HEIGHT=244 WIDTH=271 SRC="../assets/images/two_bikes_fmws.jpg" BORDER=3 ALT="">
The height and width are determined by the height and width attributes in the above snippet of html.
But, the photo as it appears on this page:
http://www.redvfr.plus.com/html/body_photo_gallery_1.html
looks squashed, as though the bikes are too tall.
That's because the "real" size of the photo is 448 pixel wide by 336 pixels high.
Looking at the photo direct, without the html around it, you get this:
http://www.redvfr.plus.com/assets/images/two_bikes_fmws.jpg
which looks a lot more sensible.
So, what you could do, is change your html to this:
<IMG ID="Picture83" HEIGHT=336 WIDTH=448 SRC="../assets/images/two_bikes_fmws.jpg" BORDER=3 ALT="">
and then it would look correct on the web page.
Alternatively, you could resize the image in an image editing application like the gimp (http://www.gimp.org/). By doing this, you can resize the photo to be the size you want it, and it would also shrink the photo in the correct proportions.
For example, if you opened the above image in something like photoshop or similar, you could go to Image > Resize > Resize Image and set the width to be 271 (as in your html) and the program works out that if the photo is to still remain in proportion, the height would need to be 203 pixels. And then your photo would look much better.
e.g. this is the same one resized correctly:
http://jimpix.co.uk/images/wu/2bikes.jpg
All the best - it is a nice site - well done!
Jim

Well it's not often I sit and read a whole page or very neally.
It's a very nice site and I found some very useful info and it also made me think about Encephalitis which is the main reason for starting my site as it put me in a coma and took me 2 years just to be able to get back to work and stick it for a day but the only thing I could do was work with my computer doing some very complex stuf I would never have understood before my Illness.
7 years later and I still couldn't hang the washing out as I'd get dissy and end up on my arse after a few times bending over.
I do hope you get better and hope you continue with your site as I'll popin from time to time esp as I like the bikes (Ain't got one but can dream that maybe one day)
best wishes
mick
