Can I use a wireless router with one laptop?
      #232930 - Mon Oct 24 2005 03:22 PM

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can advise me please. I use wanadoo broadband with my X05 samsung laptop, the connection to my usb ports is ill-fitting and keeps throwing me off-line.

I was wondering if it's possibly to use a wireless router with one laptop only and if so, how. I have no other computers in the home. I spoke to customer services at Samsung earlier and the person I spoke to said it's was possible, I'm still not sure. Does anyone know if it's possible and if not can you think of an easy solution to not having to plug the adsl speedtouch into my usb port on my laptop. I'm trying to avoid purchasing an additional pc.

I hope this makes sense.

Thanks,
Ally

have you tried using a ethernet cable (RJ45) between your modem and laptop?

Thanks for answering Cisco Kid, I posted a reply the other day but it hasn't appeared.I have wanadoo speechtouch and it's not possible to plug an ethernet cable into it.

I've been researching wireless routers and I'm still no clearer on what I need. I've telephoned companies etc. I've been told I need a wireless card by some and not by others, some say I don't need to plug anything in to the laptop some say I do. On top of which I've been reading reviews on different routers and have become even more confused. I'm also not sure what the difference is between a router and a router/modem.

Basically I can't seem to find out what router and equipment I need for a Samsung X05 laptop. Bearing in mind I don't want use the usb ports.

Ally (Frustrated)
