My website to make work a bit more fun
      #232303 - Fri Oct 21 2005 10:26 PM

My site is a web site for sharing, trading, lending, borrowing DVDs blah, blah, blah - heard it all before hey ? Well, hopefully this is a bit different. It's focused very much at people who work in the same place lending and borrowing DVDs, CD, Books and VideoGames from each other. Hopefully it may even spark a few new friendships.

Here it is:
www.MoviesAtWork.co.uk

I've been working on it for over a year - yes I am very sad, but I enjoy it godam it, so there.

I noticed that I was quite often lending DVDs to friends at work, but it's so easy to lose track of them and also to know exactly what films everyone has at home.

There are some affiliate links in there, but I included them mainly to fill in gaps and add a bit of color - graphics are really not my thing. I'm really really sorry if I'm breaking any rules here, don't ban me - I've only just joined. I've got about one and a half visiters at the moment so this cannot be called a for profit site !!

Hope you like it ! Tell your friends.
Cheers
Nigel

Hi Nigel,

You've put a lot of work into the site - the idea is a good one, but I'm not sure how practical it is (sorry to be pessimistic).

I always feel like the thing about workplace lending is that it is very informal. But then again, the web is full of surprises, so I hope this does well for you.

The site design is pleasant, but there are a few things which came to my attention:

1. The logo is very small, prob. because you have a big banner ad at the top, with the logo squashed to the side. When glancing at the page, it is hard to know exactly which site you're on. Then again, I see you have a larger logo on the non-homepage pages, so maybe I'm just being picky.

2. The homepage to me feels very cluttered and busy. It's hard to know where to start when looking at the homepage.

3. Some of the pages have a set width, like the homepage, while others are full width. A small point, but it detracts from a consistent feel to the site.

Overall though, the site is well designed and is a good advert for your web skills. There must be some hefty php work going in in the background as well.

Good luck to you

Jim

Jim,

Your comments are spot on - thanks very much for taking the time out to feed all this back to me. You're right, there is some hefty php coding behind all this. It was a hobby of mine that got out of control !

Anyway, thanks again - lots of things to think about there.

Cheers
Nigel
