Hi
I am slowly going mad here!
I have replaced my Speedtouch 330 ADSL modem with the above in order to setup a small home network. I am on Pipex ISP and have got all settings from them (although only useful when I can connect!)
The modem/router appears to be working OK, ie the red ALM LED briefly lights and goes out, the green LAN, WLAN and WAN LEDS also light up in turn (all as per manual). That seems to indicate that it is connected. BUT the systray icon shows no connectivity so I can never get to the point of opening the browser and getting a result from entering http://192.168.1.1 (per manual) or http://192.168.0.1 (is this correct?)
I am running Win XP Pro and have Zone Alarm Pro plus AV software. For the purposes of sorting this out I have disabled ZAP but that makes no difference.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks
nanouk

A significant number of problems with networking revolve around firewalls. You say you have disabled ZA. Have you actually gone into the setup and told it you don't want it to run at startup at all rather than just switching it off? Have you also disabled the Windows XP firewall and rebooted the PC after both operations?

Hi
Thanks for your prompt reply. No I hadn't disabled ZAP at startup. I now have and also checked that Windows firewall is disabled and rebooted. Still have the problem tho'.
I note that if I mouse-over the LAN icon in the systray it shows Speed: 10 Mbps and Status: Limited or no connectivity", and of course, I cannot access the Internet.
Does this help and is there anything else I can try? Right now I am using my original ADSL modem to connect otherwise I can't send this!
Any more ideas/help greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Rather than going straight for the wireless setup I would recommend that you use an RJ45 (Ethernet) cable to connect your PC to the router first and do all the setup that way. Once it's up and running in that way you can transfer to Wireless.

Hi
Thanks again for a quick response. I'm off out now but can say (as it wasn't clear from what I wrote before) that my modem/router is connected to the PC with an ethernet cable and to the adsl line with the supplied cable (RJ11, I think) connected to the WAN port of the modem/router.

So the PC can't even see the router properly. That suggests that you haven't got all the services/protocols set up for your NIC. Can you go to Device Manager and make sure that your NIC is fully functioning. If it is go to Control Panel, Network Connections and right click on the Local Connection and choose Properties. What have you got showing in the box?

Hi
Thanks again for your reply. In Device Manager the NIC looks OK. In Network Connection Properties of the LAN connection shows as follows:
General Tab: Client for MS Networks, File & Printer Sharing for MS Networks, MS TCP/IP v 6, and Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) are all checked. Is this as it should be? On the Authentication Tab: Enable IEEEE 802.1x authentification for this network - not checked. On the Advanced Tab: Settings button for Windows Firewall but I have already disabled this when I installed ZAP
Hope all this helps - it's all Greek to me!!
Thanks

That all sounds OK and yet the router still doesn't connect.... hmmmm. Needs more thinking time unless someone else can come up with a brilliant solution.
