So I've given a password to my wireless router, how do I tell the laptop that password so it can access the web?

Is the password just to protect unauthorised changes within the router itself? If so, it shouldn't make any difference to your laptop.
Unless of course you mean to protect your wireless from neighbours or passing 'trade', as in 'Security enabled wireless network'?

If you have set your router up with encryption, say 128-bit WEP, you will have entered a pass phrase which will have generated 13 hex digit pairs which should be viewable and save changes. You must note these down.
Return to your laptop, Control Panel>Wireless Networks>R/Click Wireless Connection>Properties>Wireless Networks>Preferred Network>Highlight yours>Properties>Data Encryption>Enter those noted numbers/letters>Confirm>OK
Try that and see if you can connect.
Look at this link (Belkin Setup) . . . . > Router Setup . It may help a little if your using Belkin equipment and software.

Thanks! I set up a wireless password using WPA, put in a password, then right clicked on the Network icon in the system tray, this then told me that it couldn't connect to the network as it was protected, then I clicked connect and it asked me for the password. Looks like I knew my own answer really, but thanks for the input. Is WEP stronger than the WPA option?
