Floppy Disc problem
      #23057 - Mon Nov 17 2003 06:15 PM

I am doing a college course on Microsoft Word. We have been given a floppy disc with the exercises on it. When I put it in my home pc it keeps saying " do you you want to format the disc. " I say no then nothing happens. Also it says insert a disc in drive A, when it is already in there. Sometimes I can get it to work but the pc seems to hang for ages. I don't know if this is a disc problem or not as it works okay in the college laptop. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like the heads on the floppy drive are dirty. You may need to get a floppy drive head cleaner

Sometimes the format command apppears to work properly in one pc but not another. I normally format the floppy in the home pc and then take it in to class and ask them to copy the documents again.

Lots of floppy disk info here Jaynee.
"Computer Help" is about as big a lie as "the cheque is in the post."

Thanks to all you for your replies. I have just put another floppy disc in the drive and it worked perfectly. I don't know what to do now. The disc was empty when I was given it. The tutor had loaded the exercises onto the pc, I put them on to the disc so I could do some work at home. What should I do now?

Take the new disc that you've just created into the class room and try and download the exercises onto this new floppy.

Thanks, another person on the course has had the same problem. There are a few exercises on the disc that wouldn't work. I have managed to load them onto the pc now. So I am okay now. Thanks for your replies.
