Hello, Newbie here.
There is a lot of good information on these forums. Thanx
However, I still need advice on what wirelss router and usb adapter to buy. I have been leaning towards the D-Link DSL-904 package at PCworld for £59.99. A friend has one and has 2 pc's connected and is very happy. However, he does not play online games and I have read that if you intend on playing games online a 54Mbps router may cause problems especially if the other machine (laptop in my case) is accessing the web. Would it be best to invest in a 108Mbps Router ? If so any ideas in what to buy ?
On a side note I have pre-ordered a Xbox 360. Would I be able to use the usb dongle from the dsl 904 (or any other models) with the xbox 360 or will i still need to buy their wireless networking adapter ?
Thank you for your time and any ideas, thoughts would be appreciated.
cheers

Welcome to the forums Kano,
£59.99 is a lot to pay for a router when you get them so much cheaper elsewhere.
scottyg posted a good set of kit in this thread

It shouldn't really cause problems for a router, the bandwidth that both machines are using is unlikely to max out your connection. You have to remember that your network is only as fast as your slowest link, and in a network where multiple pcs are connected to the internet, the slowest link will be the internet connection itself
As for the xbox 360 connection, if you get a wireless router, no further kit is required, as the 360 is wireless 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g enabled, all you have to do is ensure that your router allows the necessary ports for hosting etc of games

thank you for the response.
The combined cost of the belkin router & adpater comes to nearly £60, same as the d-link which comes with usb adapter. And from past experience I would never ever use savastore again.
Thanks for the alternative I will search the web for reviews comments on the Belkin router.

is your modem to be in a different room as your main PC?

The modem will be in the pc room (upstairs). The usb adapter would be for the laptop which would more than likely used in the living room on the ground floor.

I assume then that the laptop does not have a built in wireless card?

Yep, you are correct. The laptop has no built in wireless card.
I have found comments concerning the latest adapters, stating that they may not work with the xbox 360. I am hoping to be able to use adapter on a laptop and the 360, when it arrives. So, at the moment I will not rush out and buy but will keep searching the web for information.
Cheers
