Do you mean you haven't knowingly downloaded this program?

I don't anything about the actual program, but if you haven't knowingly downloaded it, then I would say it's not worth it. Why would anyone want something that is pushed at them in this way.

Hi all .
Just to say many thanks for all the interest showed relating to the problems I was having with my Pocki Drive ETC that it looked as though I was going to have to Format my HD. I am pleased to say that I have managed to get it working with out.
I got into Device Manager which I have done several times but this time I found the culprit had a yellow flag for some reason it was not there before and so I was able to uninstalled it and reinstall, a point that may be of interest to some of you is I plugged n the device but it would not fully install without running the CD apparantly it contains some drivers and then it installs Windows drivers, Cheers Jp

Did you knowingly download this program?

I've just downloaded and ran the freebie version of Registry Mechanic and it found 7 errors of which it offered to fix 1 because although it scans the whole registry it will not display or fix anything beyond the first 6 checked headings. It works in exactly the same way as Norton Win Doctor and appears to offer the same fixes. It works by cross checking different parts of the registry to make sure that there are no anomalies. If it finds any it gives you the chance to fix them, in most cases by deleting the offending entries.

Should you get the full version? The registry is continually getting bloated by the things you do on your PC and this programme helps to reduce the bloat. However, unless you are experiencing problems that you think might be registry related I'm not convinced it's worth buying. The ultimate way to pare down your registry is to format the HD and reinstall from scratch and if things get really bad that is probably a better option.

I personally don't think they're worth bothering with. The registry doesn't take a huge amount of disk space and I will generally go into the registry editor to solve any problems. Luckily I never get any (ha, now watch).

I think it's one of those programs that if it makes you feel good knowing it's there, then it's alright.

Thanks Greysts for evaulating Registry Mechanic as you say you have to buy the full version for a proper check in was shearly coincidence that I was having Registry problem as you did give me some advice yourselve. What impressed me, was that after running the trial I was able to solve the Pocki Drive/device problem it definitly was not showing any yellow flags before I must have checked it dozens of times, If you think it will do no harm then I will go for the full version and let you know more about it,
Cheers Jp

with a lot of those programs you have to be very careful what you tell it to fix, suddenly you have programs that won't work i got caught with registry mechanic once, nothing serious but it has sort of put me off using them.

And one of the reasons why I never recommend them. They have been hailed as the saviour of PCs, and posibly so in the right hands. I prefer the good old fashioned manual method of registry entry deletion

It's always worth doing it manually. That way you know what is being changed and can easily retrace your steps if needed.

Also you'll get to learn about the registry.
