Hi,
I am re-doing my site and in the past I have very much appreciated the constructive comments from other members.
I have currently only done the index page and the 'about' page, but I was hoping for some feedback.
I am particularly interested in the coloured words for my navigation in the header section. Do they work, look naff? What may suit the image better?
Many thanks,
Mark.

Hi Mark,
the coloured links:
I'm not too sure - in my opinion they don't really go with the rest of the site. To be blunt, the general header looks a bit lost, as though you had a few graphic elements, shook them up in a bag, and put them on the site. That sounds a bit harsh, but it doesn't seem to flow for some reason.
But what do I know? I'm not sure. I think the main thing you might be battling with is lack of content. If you had lots of content or ideas or something around which your site was based, other elements like navigation etc. would be a lot easier to work out, because there would be a purpose to what you're doing.
Apologies for the pessimistic tones. You've certainly improved on the graphics / web design side since your first postings here...
Best wishes,
Jim

No worries Jim, that's the reason for posting.
I think I am going to remove the coloured links and put something a bit more clean into the header. I like the other sections to it, so hopefully some simple crisp links will prove more successful.
I also think your right, not having content on their always detract from a positive overall impression. Once I get all the section live then I'll seek further criticism.
Thanks,
Mark.

I tend to agree with bumpyride, those colours don't look right on the black/grey/white background of the header. It reminded me of someone using coloured, magnetic letters on a fridge. I hope that doesn't sound too rude! Also, the opening page is ½ empty, I think it needs more stuff* on it. I had a look at your journal while I was there; the Why?????????? and Cricketing Sledges! posts were very funny! Sounds like you had a good time in France. *technical term! Madeline.

I have updated the homepage.
Whether it is for the better I shall let you decide, but I like it?!

I like it! It looks much more professional, it's pleasant to look at and it fills the screen! It's definitely a change for the better. Madeline.

I question the use of relatively small white lettering on a grey background on yout home page. It's not easy to read quicky and may cause some to lose interest - without exploring further. This would be a shame.
Under 'Photography' there is a typo in the 2nd sentence. 'thrid' should read 'third'

Thanks for the points and the typo - I hate typos so was glad you spotted it. It will get corrected tomorrow.
The writing is a tough one, I guess it may depend on the screen size? What is yours out of interest? I am unable at the moment to view anything larger than 1024x768.
Cheers,
Mark.

1152 x 864 on 17" Acer flat screen. As matter of interest, I also find it difficult to read sites that use certain combinations of colours. Red lettering on orange or yellow backgrounds throws my eyes out of focus. Probably something to do with the fact that, like a lot of men, I'm colour blind. I was once told that I couldn't be a flighter pilot because camouflage would completely fool me - but that's another story.

Ah, ok. This is perhaps the reason why no-one has commented on this issue until now.
You screen is a little bigger so I guess the text maybe that bit smaller and if you have difficulty with certain combinations then my site must be a real ..... to read .
