(have posted this in Networking, but thought i might get a better repsonse here)
Okay, essentially what I have is an ADSL connection, and a broadband router. I have a desktop PC and a laptop - the PC has an external modem but the laptop an inbuilt one.
What I have done is - connected the ADSL cable to the PC's modem (the modem is connected to the PC via a USB cable), had an ethernet cable from the modem to the router, and another ethernet cable from the router to the laptop. The laptop's internet worked, but desktop's did not.
I am wondering what sort of configuration could possibly work, using only the broadband router?! It can definitely be used with ADSL, as my laptop worked.
Would this work - ADSL connection to the modem, ethernet cable from modem to router, ethernet cables from router to desktop PC and laptop. ??? PLEASE HELP!

i am a bit confused by your description. A normal connection for a single pc would be ....
pc ---------router ----------modem -------phone socket
to add a second pc plug that into the router as well.
pc -----------¬ pc ---------router ----------modem -------phone socket
use ethernet to connect to router if router has two ethernet connections available.
