AOL 9.0 & Internet Explorer
      #220941 - Fri Sep 09 2005 10:23 PM

Hi

I have recently got AOL Broadband but am not using their web browser as i prefer Microsoft Internet Explorer. So I use AOL Dialler which connects through Internet Explorer. However, every time I close down the web browser I get an error message....

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

It states that the following file will be included in the error report,
C:\DOCUME~1\[User]LOCALS~1\Temp\WER13.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

This happens every time and is quite annoying seeing that AOL have no interest in trying to help me even though it seems it is a compatibality issue as I have had no problems wih freeserve or NTL.

All help much appreciated

Hi Bob
As the file you have posted is a Tempfile that is deletable with no worries
Down load and run Crapcleaner from www.ccleaner.com on both the cleaner and Issues(Registry) Untick the Cookies and Web History boxes on the check list Before you run the cleaner! otherwise you'll have to login everywhere
The reason for your error message may be a conflict somewhere and sweeping the computer of all the rubbish files may clear the offending thing? Might be something like a mis-installed file?
As regards Internet Explorer the AOL program uses a customised version to work besides the proper version Lots of settings are shared But the good news is You do not have to be tied to AOL...
Simply sign on at AOL then minimise the AOL Home page with the (Windows + D) Keys and Continue with the Internet Explorer page and the same combination will restore the AOL page
The AOL dialler is only for Dialup? Remove all your dialup wiring and modem connections (especially if an internal card) then Open Internet Options (Connections tab) and check the setting is set to "Never dial a connection" press Apply to save
