I am soon to move house and this gives me the ideal opportunity to change my isp if I can find a more suitable deal. I am currently with wanadoo broadband (originally with freeserve and migrated) and have been reasonably happy with the package, the connection has never really posed any problems but the customer service has been close to non existant when I have had any problems. How ever the price is reasonable, 17.99 per month for 1MB connection and 2GB limit.
I have been looking around and I have found Tiscali's Broadband and Phone offer offering and unlimited 1MB broadband connection with FREE national calls (numbers beginning with 01 or 02) at any time of the day from your home phone. This package costs just 19.99. Is this too good to be true?
Can anybody give me some feedback on Tiscali, is this low price just enticing people in to poor service and quality of connection? I have done a quick search of the net for reviews of Tiscali and found a couple of people that are stating that they have frequently lost their service and have also recieved incorrect billing for their phone line. There don't appear to be anybody praising the service but as one review site pointed out, for every 1 complaint there are probably 100's of satisifed customers.

Hello their I am with tiscali broadband I have been with them for say around 5 months now .and the only problem I have had was a faulty phone socket and that caused me to lost my connection to the net while the phone was ringing .tiscali tried their best to help me but I cured the problem my self as I felt they do not move quick enough for me and the phone socket problem is not a tiscali one. Apart from that the service has never gone down and worked fine, also my exchange was upgraded last month and now the service is even better. I did not like the sagem 800 modem as you can have problems with it working on your windows; I bought a better modem anyway and not had any problems since
I would like to say here that most people complain about the slightest thing and blame their ISP for all their troubles. Example BT owns the equipment from the exchange to your house no matter what ISP you are with and ISP’s are not responsible for the way your phones are wired in your house. Some of the many complaint of any ISP I have read if only some people understood that, but they just blame the ISP.
The technical support from tiscali in India is not good first the quality of the voice is very low and you can’t hear them well and that makes you shout at them .plus the India people are not very good at accents even if they can speak good English with other Indian speaking people .so you have some one shouting in a accent to a English speaking Indian who can’t understand your accent and you have not got your problem over to them yet .its no wonder they hang up the phones and get stressed out and so do you .not a good way to solve a problem tiscali do not do them selves any favours their efforts to save money
I on 512k 30 gig (going unlimited this month) with smart talk for 15 pounds month .I canny get more as I am 3.5 k away from the nearest exchange. And if you ask me if I would stay with them I would say no I would probably try some one else after my year is up .as we say once you’re at the bottom the only way is up lol.
Tiscali broadband service is like a dream compared to telewest 56k and broadband when they first came out many years ago .so it can only get better for tiscali lol

Well said, bravebryans. Your description of their modem and their callcentre is absolutely accurate.

Can anybody suggest an alternative package from another ISP that may be more suitable? I like the idea of getting FREE phone calls as in teh Tiscali package, I am not bothered about unlimited downloads, capped at about 2gb is perfectly sufficient and I would like a speed of around 1MB.
Answers on a postcard!

Hello dame its np to answer that, all you have to do is make sure your computer has a network card build in or you can buy one and install it. Make sure its working ok and your comp is now Ethernet ready to accept a connection from an Ethernet ADSL modem.
I use the belkin one here is the link http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN...6092933-5755606
And here is a link to explain how to set the modem up mine is the F5D7632uk4 And the link is for the F5D7630 model but they are set up the same
http://www.adslguide.org.uk/hardware/reviews/2004/q4/belkin-f5d7630-4a.asp
You can use either the Ethernet side of the router or the wireless side both work well With tiscali ISP and there is not much to change in the settings.
Advantages with this modem, you never need to install any drivers with the modem windows xp takes care of that once you have connected it to the computer. Also there is no need for the tiscali software to be installed on the comp. you can input the details in the router its self. And config your windows browser to suit. There is no need to connect to the net once your comp is switched on as the modem does that automatic. And if you get disconnected it reconnect for you. You can leave you modem on and have the comp switched off and still have the same ip address.
This is a good modem to use, I never liked USB modems and you will see the difference with a good modem compared to the sagem 800 if you have that modem it makes a good door stopper with its nice shape lol. I hope I have help you make a good move as there is some nice ADSL modems out their to buy mine cost £80 PC world, make sure you buy the one with the wireless adapter in the box.

Hiya, I use TalkTalk Broadband 1Mb at £19.99pm. So far, I have not had any problems, and been with them for 10 months. As for phone calls, the package includes free weekend calls to any UK landline, all calls free to anyone else on TalkTalk all day every day too (got my family and friends to join up) so I save a small fortune, well about £20pm on phone calls, so you could say I get my broadband for free. You do not get a bells and whistle homepage like you get with Tiscali, BT, AOL and the likes. But for me, that is an advantage as I like to choose my own homepage (the BBC actually, thanks for asking). Hope this helps.

Have a look at 'E7even'. Have a look at customer comments on Adslguide.com.
I did, signed up, and have been entirely content with their service. So much so that I've just upgraded to 2Mbps service for the next 2 years.
I previously used Tiscali for both ISP and phone services. I didn't get on with their ISP service, and couldn't get any useful response from their Customer Services, over quite a long time. So I researched using the above ADSLguide.com, asked qs. like you are doing - then jumped in. While I had no quibble with Tiscali's phone service, I suspect - from others' posts - that I was lucky.

Hi
Have a rethink. I joined on 256 with Tiscali in March and I wish I had not! A month ago I upgraded to 512 "thinking" the KB/sec was low and because I run a website via Overture I often have to edit various aspects of it so like everyone with a problem I contacted their Customer Support and they are useless. I was experiencing really poor rates some times into single KB/sec figures and they send you formatted replies telling you to do speed checks check settings and everything else but like a fool I tried all of them with no joy and with over 30 odd yes 30 odd emails exchanged I had to resort to threats via my local County Court and Trading Standards and only then and nearly four weeks weeks later did they act and as I suspected the problem lay with their Sagem Modem (new customers are now sent out a Thomson Speedtouch) and there should be with me and hope cures the fault a new Speedtouch in the morning? OK as a goodwill gesture they upgraded me FOC to 1mb and the transfer rate remain the same so I hope the new Modem cures with figures crossed it does but as far as a Customer Service they must be manned by individuals who assume all Tiscali customers have a minus IQ! And when you need to contact anyone its at National Rate and you have to repeat everything to a voice in the Far East. This is my experience and I was informed I am not alone to this scenario so with hindsight I should have gone to a little known ISP and maybe would not be writing this and now I have a e-mail address to some one at Tiscali in Milton Keynes who has a brain and if you have migrated to Tiscali I can pass it on and suggest you visit ADSL Guide and Zen to check your connection speed (Ive taken in the last month over 90) and as a true test download Media Player 10 to your Desktop and see the KB/sec transfer rate. Good Luck you will need it!

Does anybody have any experience or knowledge of ToucanSurf? I see that they do a similar package with 2MB connection and 2GB download limit along with a FREE offpeak and weekend phone call package, charged at 19.74 per month. Seems to be a good value for money package but is another ISP that I have not heard of before and do not want to be enticed in to contract and end up with poor connection and customer service.
