What causes loss of BroadBand connection?
      #220296 - Wed Sep 07 2005 01:06 PM

I apparently live at the very edge of broadband availability (max rate was 0.5Mb now upgraded to 1Mb - on a theoretical 2Mb availability).
I've found that I lose Broadband connection every few days (and am beginning to suspect that this might be linked with 'busy' periods like early evening when perhaps lots of people are connecting.
Is it likely that in a weak signal environment and pushing the contention ratio towards its max would result in my modem dropping its connection?
Is there anything I could do to prevent this? I have a Netgear DG824M (now relatively old 'b' technology although I mainly use LAN cables). Is there other kit out there which has a better reputation at holding on to the Broadband connection?
View/contributions gratefully received.
Thanks.

The BB connection is totally dependent on the quality of your BT line. First thing to do is to get BT to do a full scale check of your t/p line. Ask them to increase the gain but also make sure that where the BT line comes into your house the connections are clean and free from rust and dirt.

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.
