NTL's broadband Medic's answer to everthing is to switch of your modem for 5 minutes or whatever it is,most of the time it is just an intrusive nuisance! Only time i found it useful is when it tells you about NTL 'outages,' usually the e-mail, saves you looking any further to find out what the problem is. I didn't keep mine for long.

For the novice though, it is quite helpful. It purportedly checks your internet connection, if youve lost it. It tells you stuff about checking cables etc., and then, as you say, it's answer to most things is unplug, wait and then plug in and start again. It has worked for me a couple of times when I've lost it, but since I've uninstalled Incredimail (see elswhere) my system hasn't faltered 'touch wood'.

i've had installed since it was first released...with no problems *but* i don't have it running in the background and the only time it rears its head is if i lose my internet connection and 99 times out of a 100 it is able to repair it for me with no fuss and no restarts so i'd say install it, run msconfig to remove it from the startup list and relax...think of it as your pc's equivalent of the AA/RAC....when your computer breaksdown on the information superhighway

As a matter of interest, is your NTL box connected to your PC via USB?

i connect via a network card..NTL recommended it when they first started broadband in my area 3 years ago, then they moved to usb, now back again .
usb isn't worth using for net use coz what's the first thing the pc stops using when its running low on resources? your usb ports :P
