AOL/Firefox
      #216854 - Tue Aug 23 2005 04:16 PM

Hi Guys,

I'm currently signed up to AOL 9 on Broadband. I've had enough of them and their browser, but have to stay with them for another 8 months.
Does anybody know of a way I can get online using another browser (preferably Firefox) without starting the AOL software?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Andy.

PS I've also posted this in the Browsers Forum.

I think the trick is to disable the AOL Dialler and B) alter the defaults in the connections tab in Internet Explorer
I'm assuming you are going to retain the AOL BB set up? You can ask them to take you back to Silver if you are on a Higher Level? This will ease the bill slightly (and you still honour the contract)

i am going to assume u use windows xp......okay delete the aol software if u dont want to use it:S.........now follow thse settings

go to start>network connections.......on the left click on create a new connection

click next ....next again...choose set up connection manually...next....choose the second option which goes connect using a BB connection which uses a username and password...ISP name can be anything....use AOL if u want....user bname will be

your aol screen name@aol.com
password: your password:S

click next and again and you are all done:D

sorted i hope......post back

instead of all this you could get a router as well:D you wont need the software with tht aswell

Roll - superb my friend, works a charm

Bed - thanks for your advice too. I'm already on Platinum and waiting for my upgrade to 2meg (which I was promised in March), I'd rather hang on til Xmas to see if I get my upgrade.......................

Anyway - is there a way in Firefox that I can just click on the icon and connect automatically as you can in IE?

I'm due (overdue) to go to 1024 Meg Promised in April, but like you have seen nothing My upgrade still is shown as April Don't know about other Long service members if they have got it.
Priority is going to New signups or Upgrades to BB from Dial up
