Slow connection speeds
      #212500 - Tue Aug 02 2005 07:25 PM

Hi all,
Being new to this don't know if I'm in the right forum but need some help. Recently my computer has slowed down and became quite unpredictable. Taking longer to load pages, directing me to a link to click on to to access the site after logging on, can't sell anything because when I complete category page and press continue it prompts me to enter the category information(which I have already done). I tried to contact ebay via email but the page where I have to select different options with regard to my problem, the boxes don't load with any options to select. Sometimes I have to disconnect and reconnect to get a page. Also, I use online banking but my security input information is not being recognised. I have checked for viruses but found nothing. Any suggestions anybody? All help greatly appreciated. Thank you. Paul J
P.S Running Windows XP

What about spyware? Have you got any anti-spyware programs such as Ad-Aware and Spybot? If your PC has acquired a lot of spyware, it can slow things down considerably. You can get Ad-Aware here and Spybot here. Also get SpywareBlaster here, which can stop a lot of spyware from getting on your PC in the first place.
If this doesn't help, go to the Hijack This logs forum, follow the instructions in Andrew's post at the top and post a log, together with a brief description of your problem. Someone will analyse your log and advise you on what to do next.

Madeline.

Hi Madeline,
I have Spybot and Adaware which I use frequently. Have now installed SpywareBlaster so does this mean I should not get any problems coming into Adaware and Spybot? Will SpywareBlaster prevent this? I did a log using HiJackThis and was told everything looked ok.
I found a virus Win32:CTX. After getting rid of it every time I now search for something in IE, click on one of the search results the page comes up blank, "Done" in the status bar to indicate page is fully loaded. I have to copy and paste the link into my address bar to get me the page. Any ideas please?

You may still get problems coming into Ad-Aware and Spybot. SpywareBlaster will only prevent things in its database from getting on your PC, so continue to update and run all of these programs regularly. SpywareGuard is another good, preventative program to have, but don't bother if you've got Tea Timer enabled in Spybot as they both do much the same thing.
Regarding the virus problem, I think that you should go to the Hijack This logs forum, follow Andrew's instructions in the post at the top and post a log, together with a brief description of your problem.
