Hello everyone,
I’m currently running BT broadband using a voyager 205 ADSL router. I get the trouble that it cuts off very frequently. I have looked at other posts around the internet which are very similar. After finding stats off my modem I found that I am about 2.6km away from telephone exchange and more shockingly my local SNR is around 2-4dB which lead me to believe this is the problem. Furthermore BT broadband is running at a 1mb connection which is debatable for the area I live. (I got this info from samknows.com) which suggested that "I may be able to obtain a 1mb connection" i.e. if I am lucky. However it is too my knowledge that BT only do a 1mb connection, and even which a 512kb I am spectacle about the changes of it working (with such a small snr). I moved house around 3-4months ago and it took a long time for broadband to be fitted a BT engineer came around and had to change wires etc (I don’t know the details) and I was wondering if this could have an effect on the SNR. As far as I am aware all the other stats of my modem are all in order. Does anyone have any ideas on what could sort out the problem? I am reluctant in changing my ISP and BT broadband phone help is sufficiently useless! I am unsure what BT could do other than send an engineer around to attempt 2 fix the problem or do tests? Any help is very much appreciated as I am sure you know this is driving me mad now!
Thanks a lot for your time
Adam.
p.s. sorry for a few spelling mistakes and maybe not the correct jargon I am far from an expert on computers.

I had the same problem with the 205 after a recent HDD failure. After reloading XP and the router software I found the same happening. It may not be this but check in Device Manager | Network Adaptors | BT Voyager 205 ADSL Router | Double click and select Power Management tab, remove the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

I have the same issue but with the voyager 100. I have a 2meg connection and I am apparently close to the exchange.
The really wierd thing is that it tends to be fine during the day but then drops every 5 minutes from about 6:45pm onwards. Needless to say, BT support are completely useless and have been no help whatsoever.
