Do I have the right?
      #210519 - Mon Jul 25 2005 04:02 PM

Hi All,

As I'm an old Freeserve Broadband customer, still on the old contract and only have 512 KB speed. When Wanadoo took over and started increasing the speed to 1MB, I was left behind (although I could have signed the new service) because I was on the old contract.

Over the weekend Wanadoo have increased the speed to 2MB. So I'm asking you if you think I have a right to ask Wanadoo to increase my 1BB speed to at least MB? I'm paying £27.99 and not the going rate of £17.99, the only difference is I get unlimited use.

Thanks

No if you want the higher speed you will have to pay £20 admin fee, plus reduce your useage to limited - on the plus side you get the 2mb speed.

I was on the 512 unlimited package and upgraded to the 1.1mbps not so long ago. I'm quite annoyed that they now expect me to cough up another twenty notes to go even faster.

I have a feeling my speed will slow down as a result too :\

Why not simply change supplier to an ISP that will give you the service you want at the speed you want ?

I know how you feel £28 for a service that is a quater of the speed others are getting then asking £20 to upgrade you to that service, why not take a look at ISP REVIEW and find an ISP that you can move to for free and get the speed increase at the same time

I am in the same position as you except just before Freeserve became Wanadoo I threatened to leave them but negotiated a reduction to £19.99 for the 512kbs "service". Having tried their self-service service checker they recommend I upgrade to the 2mb 6gb limit service for £24.99. I want an unlimited service so, like Wildthing says, I am shopping around for best deal that comes with good recommendations. At the moment I am seriously considering PlusNet.
Edit
I've just read PlusNet reviews on ISP Review and I am seriously considering someone else - don't know who yet! As ever Caveat Emptor and read the small print!

As you're an 'unlimited' customer, you must be over your 12 month minimum contract?, apparently they will upgrade you free rather than lose your custom, but it means you will then have a limited download service, and are subject to another 12 month minimum period.

Failing that, vote with your feet!.

BTW, some so called 'unlimited' customers at Wanadoo are receiving threatening emails about their excessive usage, and are likely to have their contracts cancelled.
