Broadband wiring /filter set up tip
      #207943 - Fri Jul 15 2005 07:01 PM

If you are setting up a broadband connection to check if the telephone line is not being interfered with. This is not mentioned in the Setup leaflets
I have a quick check by switching on the computer (and not going on line) then plugging in the telephone and listening in.
Normally you'll get a dial tone "purr" yes? But if the connection is lacking a filter or is wrongly wired you'll get a low electronic intermittent pulse noise in the background.
If you do try to go online while doing this you'll get a full earful like a Dial-up Modem Tone! So avoid doing this
Once the setup is complete the Phone line returns to it normal (dialtone)state regardless of the computer being connected or not
Ps Any Crackles are generated by the phone cable or phone sockets ect. Not the BB modem. So replace these ASAP Improves the BB speed

Yeah, one thing that's easy to forget is that if you have multiple phone sockets, you need to stick a microfilter on all of them. Your broadband supplier will probably sell them for a 5 or 6 quid, but www.ebuyer.com do an own brand one for £1.50 - http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/...oduct_uid=39530
