WANADOO
      #206367 - Fri Jul 08 2005 10:26 PM

I have been having problems with my connection from the 25th June to the 1st July, just after i came back from a few days away, when a connection for more than 1 minute was impossible then when i finally got a connection it was at more like dial up speed, I am on the 512K 2Gb download limit, and after doing all the virus scans and ad-aware spy-bot etc. i sent Wanadoo an email but their reply looks like a standard reply to me, especially has i told them i had done all what was in their email. The adslguide speed test says i am getting a BB download around 471kbps, but sites that are BB recommended are not what you expect they keep having to buffer every few seconds and online radio is also the same. It makes me wonder if Wanadon't are allowing adslguide a BB access and every other site dial up speeds as this site loads as normal for a 512k BB connection.

this is their reply to my email

Dear Dean,

Thank you for your email.

There are a number of things that can cause slow connection or web
browsing.

Try deleting your Temporary Internet files and cookies, and make sure
there is plenty of Hard disk space available for these. This can be done
in Internet Options. Also scan your PC for Spyware as this can slow down
your Internet connection. A search on google for "spyware removal" will
find plenty of free programs that will do this.

If you are still experiencing problems go to http://www.adslguide.org/tools/speedtest.asp
and perform a speed test. Repeat this a few times a day for a couple of
days noting your speed & the time of the test. If they are particularly
slow please ring the number below and we can go through some diagnostic
checks and if required escalate this fault to BT so their engineers can
investigate this further.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.

Kind Regards

what do you all think are they just using standard replies?

The first bit sounded standard but the bit about testing several times a day and getting back to them didn't! I'm on 512k uncapped and must admit that during the same period you mentioned I too was having problems with connection speeds. Have you tried the tests here and in particular the Teak Test?

I have been testing my speed and getting good results for a BB connection but then i noticed something on Friday my connection box has two options 1/ speed touch connection & the surprise that appeared whenever 2 free connection and the only one that allows a connection is the free connection.

if i am right then tomorrow (Sunday) i should get the speed touch connection to work again as it looks like they are restricting my speed

100% until midnight free access was the only conection that worked logged off at 00.01 then back on with speedtouch conection and it worked the B*ST*RDS

Every time i go to log on the free access is what comes up even though i changed the default setting back to speed touch.

I am sure before i signed up i read that they would notify you by email if you were getting near your monthly limit, but i cannot find any mention of it now

If you pay your wanadoo by direct debit, and are as disgusted with their service as I was (am) it is likley that they have broken their own tems and conditions by not providing the service that you are paying for. Give your friendly bank a ring and reclaim as many payments as they will let you, and stop paying wanadoo for the service they dont provide. The terms of Direct debit allow you to do this.

Wanadoo will get a bit shirty and threaten all sorts, but make sure you move all your email and web resources first. For your own sanity it's worth £12 a year to be rid of wanadoo. and get a new web or email account elsewhere. Just keep replying to wanadoo with the lack of service that you have paid for, and eventually they will cave in. Play them at their own game and give them unuseable answers, send them counter bills at 50p per min for your time
After a while your account will be locked, but if you remove all traces of contact details apart from you email account, then they have to leave it open to contact you.
After that you will be so glad you ditched wanadoo.
