I have a Kodak EZ200 digital camera and have used it for 18 months with no trouble. Now I cannot download photogaphs although I can still use the camera for net.meeting. I am in touch with Kodak and also the software people, but so far, nothing they have said has helped. I have uninstalled and re-installed numerous times. I have repaired corrupt files, repaired IE and completely emptied my tmp files. I run windows 98 2nd edition with 128 ram.Can someone help please. Carol - Halifax - Fri Jul 19 17:11 2002 reply
Hi Carol I have two suggestions that may help. First go to Kodaks website and download new drivers for your camera and Windows. If this does not work then update the cameras firmware from the Kodak site. Word of caution on both suggestions.....Print and Read the installation instructions carefully. Hope this helps. Liaml - Liverpool - Sat Jul 20 13:34 2002 reply
Thanks - but been there - done that - although no new drivers!! either on Kodak or the software application. However, Kodak gave me long instructions on re-installing and did that too. Still no joy. Do you think it can be a conflict somewhere and if so, how do I find it? Carol - Halifax - Sun Jul 21 11:24 2002 reply
Hi Carol I have checked out the Kodak website and have found a Digital Camera Diagnostic Software Tool that allows you to troubleshoot connectivity problems between your KODAK digital product and your PC. It can be found here. The file you want is dd0965.exe read the instructions before installation. Good Luck Liaml - Liverpool - Wed Jul 24 15:15 2002 reply
Hi, been to the diagnostic tool, I have been there before, but Kodak say it is not a problem with the camera software cos I can still use net.meeting. They say it is Arcsoft, the software programme that is wrong. I get the following error: PI2000 caused an invalid page fault in module DC31JPEG.DLL at 0167:02be6272. If this information helps, I have downloaded a different software to get my photos from the camera, Irfanview- and I got the same error message which makes me think there is something wrong with something on my pc, can anyone suggest what could be wrong please. Carol - Halifax - Fri Jul 26 20:44 2002 reply
Hi Carol You do not mention what OS you are using but I presume it may be ME. It seems that a DLL file has been replaced or become corrupted. I had a similar problem with imaging software and after some toying about I found 2 solutions. First one: use System Restore to knock your PC back to before the problem occured. If this does not work then you can replace your Registry with the back up copy. You can do this by either using Start/Help/Troubleshooting and type in System Registry Checker and follow the advice and " click here to start Registry Checker or by Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information. In System Information click on Tools menu then Registry Checker. Hope this may help. Liam - Liverpool - Fri Aug 02 15:25 2002 reply
Thanks Liam, but I am using Windows 98 SE - I have done what you say and done registry checker and it says no errors, you have already backed up the system. I have had other help on this and was told to delete everything that said Kodak from my pc which I did, I did a re-install, but now if I click on imaging it goes to drive C - seems I've lost that too. I still get the same error when trying to download photos. I have also found 3 other people who are having the same problem with the Kodak EZ200 camera, it works, then all of a sudden it doesn't. Do you think a different camera would work or do you think I have to have a complete re-format as everyone else is telling me? Carol - Halifax - Mon Aug 05 13:19 2002 reply
Hi Carol, It seems that the conflict is between the software and your OS. If this is the first time it has happenend then I would back up all your documents, pictures and emails etc and re-format your drive and start afresh. If this is not the first time then I suggest you and the 3 other people contact Kodak again and keep pestering them until they look into the problem. After all they should still offer support and drivers however old a product is. Liam - Liverpool - Mon Aug 05 16:45 2002 reply
Thanks Liam, You are giving me the same advice that I keep getting, it seems awful that I have to reformat because of this error, I shall keep on at Kodak but thanks for our help Carol - Halifax - Mon Aug 05 18:30 2002 reply

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. Armed with my trusty 'XP for Dummies' I am about to learn about using Windows Media player, browsing through, the author remarks "Microsoft is hoping to wipe out RealAudio with WMA,"(whatever that is ). Does Real Player have anything of benefit that Media Player does not.Even though it's free, is it worth downloading. George - Choppington - Mon Jul 15 18:19 2002 reply
Hi George, Please be very, very careful if you download Real Player. Please read the license agreement thoroughly to see exactly what you are agreeing to. I read an article in "Doors - the computer supplement of the Sunday Times" that gave details of an on going debate on what Real Player does behind the scenes and what information it extracts from your PC. I have tried to look for this article so that you could follow the instructions on installing it without all the hidden "extras". As soon as I can locate the article I will post the link. Sol - Glasgow - Mon Jul 15 15:59 2002 reply
Sol, Have you tried right clicking on it and open properties this may reveal what it is? The name suggests it may be something to do with your Browser perhaps or a plugin for another programme. I imagine the reason you can’t open is because it has no file association. If your Computer is working well I wouldn’t be unduly concerned. Remember what the Americans say, if it aint broke don’t fix it. Joe Brennan - London. - Mon Jul 15 22:07 2002 reply
Thanks Joe. I am just a bit concerned that this may be a malicious file downloaded with something like kazaa that is still on my system.Do you know what a trace file is? Sol - Tue Jul 16 04:26 2002 reply
Thanks for the reply Joe. Right clicking gives no further clues. Do you know in general terms what a trace file is?? I have downloaded some dodgy things in the past like kazaa without realising they were full of spyware etc - just concerned that this may be a remnant of something like that. Sol - Tue Jul 16 04:17 2002 reply
Sol, I understand a trace file is usually a diagnostic file that programs use to output various messages into during the time the program is running. Apparently what happens is when you install the software the trace file does not exist. It is created when the program decides it’s needed, i.e. this could be when an error occurs and needs to be recorded in a trace file. I can see why you would be concerned, have you run Ad-aware? If you not have this programme you can download it free from the net. It’s for detecting spyware. Joe Brennan - London. - Tue Jul 16 09:42 2002 reply

Hi, can anyone help with a Windows ME minor problem? Whenever I run Windows Explorer it always opens by default in “MY!” Documents. I would like it to display, by default, the folders on my hard discs in the left hand pane like it used to do in Windows 98. I find it particularly irritating because I never use the “MY!” Documents folder as I put any documents in folders that are named to give an idea of what the contents of the documents might be. Many thanks chris - Westgate on Sea - Fri Jul 12 11:01 2002 reply
Hello Chris, It seems, unlike Windows 98, Windows ME Explorer is defaulted to open in My Documents. It can be changed but as you will see from the article I have pasted below it is quite technical and involves changing the registry. You can read the original article here:- http://www.cnet.com/software/0-429669-8-6625412-1.html When My Documents aren't my documents By Jim Aspinwall Q: Whenever I start Explorer in Windows Me, it automatically opens the My Documents folder. Is there any way to have it open the root folder of drive C: instead? A: Windows Me's Explorer default can't be changed to a different drive or folder. My Documents is a Windows system folder--technically, it's a special alias or shortcut to the C:\My Documents folder that Windows created on your hard drive. There is an indirect way to change the My Documents alias, but it does involve editing the Registry and fooling Windows into thinking that a different file is My Documents. Click Start › Run, type regedit, and press Enter. Before you start mucking around, back up the Registry. Select Registry › Export Registry File, enter a filename (such as Registry 7-27-01), check All in the Export range area below, and click OK. Now run Regedit again, and, in the left pane, open hkey_current_user\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders. In the right pane, you'll see an entry in the Name column called Personal. Double-click it and change C:\My Documents to the drive and folder you want Explorer to open by default. Follow the same steps in the User Shell Folder key in the same branch. Now go back to the top and open hkey_local_machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders. If a Personal item is listed, edit it as noted earlier. Do the same for the User Shell Folders key. Close Regedit and restart your PC for the changes to take effect. The next time you run Explorer, it will open the drive and folder you specified. Joe Brennan - London - Sun Jul 14 00:56 2002 reply
Many thanks Joe, it worked a treat. Presumably one can do the same thing and delete all the "My" from things such as My Computer as it all seems a bit childish. Hi Dennis I am no pro on this matter but I think the problem that you are encountering is the print/page setup. You can alter the margins and page size so that all of the webpage is printed by going into File / Page setup. You can preview the new settings by using Page Preview. You will have to play around with the page setup so that you get the results that you require. Bear in mind most web pages only have ads on the right nav bar anyway. Hope this may help. Thanks Nick for responding. I did originally close all possible start-up programmes and removed my anti-virus programme, which was also suggested as a possible cause. I finally Fdisked but as I said setup would not function from the CDR drive. I then re-installed my original CD Rom and successfully completed the re-install. There is no space in the small case for a slave. I agree with your thoughts on the unsuitable Windows 95 driver as the possible key to this (I don’t think CDRs were invented when I bought my Computer) and I will definitely take a look at the sites you suggest. Fortunately I’m not in any trouble currently so its not at all urgent but out of curiosity if nothing else I would still like to know the answer. I’ll post developments, if any, here in due course. Money is important to silver surfers like us. I was lucky to get my CDR-Drive free from my nephew who was upgrading to a CDRW-Drive. The cost of this equipment is coming down all the time as companies try to sell the latest gismo. I suppose the question is what do you want to do? If you only have a few important files to back-up then you might get by with you’re existing floppy drive. Each floppy disk holds about 1.4 MB but to increase that slightly you can compress the information by means of a Zip Programme like Winzip available free from the net, I use Zip Central, which is simplicity itself. You can also programme the files etc to be saved over several floppy disks. You might consider a CDR-Drive, which must be less expensive and may be sufficient for you’re, needs and does the same as the CDRW-Drive but you cannot re-use the disks. jimbob,my daughter has just switched over from audiogalaxy to using a website called kazaa for downloading music.hope this is of some assistance. john grice - leamington spa - Tue Jul 09 16:26 2002 reply
John, Bad news about Kazza-pure spyware. If you know what spyware is you will remove it very quickly. If you are happy third parties knowing what your personal and surfing habits are- then OK.Happy with third parties selling your information on-then ok.Allowing this software to send details while you are surfing then-ok.Recieving thousands of spam-then ok.Enough said. Nick G - Portsmouth - Tue Jul 09 23:42 2002 reply
Kazaa Lite however is the spyware free version. Try this, or the mighty WinMx, which seems to picking up many ex-Audiogalaxy users. Mark Boyes - Swindon - Tue Jul 16 17:14 2002 reply
Try out this site it lists over 62 p2p programs http://www.zeropaid.com/php/top_prog.php Liam - Liverpool - Wed Jul 17 18:30 2002 reply
Hi Jimbob, audiogalaxy has been taken to court recently, and as a result they can't allow any copyright material on their servers. I would suggest trying another P2P programme such as Winmx or Edonkey. Hope this has helped you in some way. Dave C - Salisbury - Sun Jul 07 22:05 2002 reply

Probably the best on the market is Llyama.Excellent resolution, sound 3 year warranty, good reputation. No problems with any operating systems. If you can afford it go TFT-the best but still quite expensive.Try www.novatech.co.uk Good service and excellent products without the frills of the rest. Hi Guys, Windows 95. 'PC Doctor on call' says I've 35 problems on my computer it can fix with one click but wants £21.00 or so before it will administer. Anybody got any thought on this product before I part with any cash?. My thanks to you all, Regards, Steve. Steve - Leeds - Thu Jul 04 23:33 2002 reply

Hi Steve You can pick up the OEM version of Norton System Works Pro 2002 for £24 at www.softwareselect.co.uk. Liam - Liverpool - Fri Jul 05 13:17 2002 reply
I'll do it for about a tenner.Does your computer work ok at the moment? My computer has 15 errors everyday because of AOHell, but does not affect performance. Before you part with the wedge try www.pcpitstop.com and run their complete tests. Most people will tell you it is the best place around.Do you really think one click is worth the money? Last resort buy Norton's system Works on a auction site(QXL) for about a tenner and it will fix most 'one click £21 problems'and give virus protection, firewall etc.Just remember piracy is a crime but it is also cheap. Liam and Nick, Thanks guys, I'll look into to your suggestions before parting with any cash. I appreciate your help. Regards, Steve. Steve - Leeds - Fri Jul 05 16:27 2002 reply

hi all, my son tinkered around with my pc, and now when i boot up i receive the message system configuration utility, and that i am using selective start up for troubleshooting your system, he cant remember how he got there, and cant seem to be able to clear it, any idea's on setting my p.c. back to the way it was, apart from using the restore device, p.s. i am running windows m.e. thanks allan - hitchin - Thu Jul 04 18:46 2002 reply
Allan, All your son has tinkered with is what windows will load when first booted up.Not always a bad idea because if you start every program up..the drain on resources is noticible.Just make sure you have the essentials. As Maurice said check the start up tab and the names should be recognisable. Nick G - Portsmouth - Thu Jul 04 23:33 2002 reply
Allan, go to Start, Run and enter Msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and check for any programs that are unticked. Click the box of any unticked ones and click Apply. Maurice - Croydon - Thu Jul 04 19:49 2002 reply
After downloading a ringtone converter most of my desktop icons have the 'my briefcase' icon over the top.I have tried going into ms-dos prompt and deleting shelliconcache,as advised in the help section, but keep getting file not found,I have also deleted this through windows explorer but still no joy. Any help appreciated. Mark Wallis Mark Wallis - Merthyr Tydfil - Thu Jul 04 10:14 2002 reply
A friend of mine recently upgraded to XP. The problem is he has a HP 1220c A3 size printer which when working in A4 then going to print gave the option of enlarging to A3 or banner size this has disappeared and the standard XP print options are in it's place can anyone help to get it back?. Iain - Essex - Thu Jul 04 00:03 2002 reply
Ian, The most likely cause is that you need to update the driver.XP is not the most friendliest of os.They do say to get new drivers for all hardware when upgrading. When upgrading the driver I would uninstal the printer-then reinstall from new. Nick G - Portsmouth - Thu Jul 04 23:40 2002 reply
Thanks for the tip Nick but when I passed it on he'd already tried that but no joy. Thanks anyway Iain - Essex - Tue Jul 09 23:29 2002 reply
Iain, have you had a look at the Microsoft problem page to see if they have a fix for this printer.Hp must have other people experiencing this problem or should be able to guide you in the right direction. Nick G - Portsmouth - Tue Jul 09 23:50 2002
