I spotted this info deep in the depths of the Contact AOL link page on the AOL Browser Don't believe it's been released to the Press?
In reply to:
On 1 August 2005, our existing freephone 0800 support numbers will change to a charged-for number: 0870 3 20 20 20. BT landline calls to 0870 numbers cost no more than 7.51p @ minute; calls from mobiles and other network providers may cost more and vary by provider. Minimum 1 minute call charge applies on all BT lines - other providers may vary. See AOL Keyword: Support Me for details.
1 thing in AOLs favour, their Call Centre does answer Promptly
This is the best time to make contact and what charges are levied:
Mon-Fri 6.00am – 6.00pm 7.51p per minute Mon-Fri before 6.00am 3.37p per minute After 6.00pm Weekend – all day Sat & Sun 1.5p per minute
If you are an AOL talk Subscriber The phone support is still Free

Maybe AOL Users will now "see the light" and escape.
EDIT: I'm baffled as to why people pay for this virus. Just wait until you try and delete it from your system lol.

Before we got this PC and Internet access, we were thinking of using AOL. From all I've read since, including this, I'm glad we didn't. Madeline.

I have only consulted them once for technical help and that was when I was on AOL 5 (really!) and my dial-up settings had gone wrong.I only had been a subscriber for a few weeks... (totally green!) If I get into bother now I know how to solve most problems or Ask on forums like this.
The internal AOL message boards are still choked by Newies asking basic questions, and haven't discovered places like this Methinks they think the Internet (beyond AOL's boundaries) is a foreign unsafe world ? So much of their time is spent on the AOL pages

Of course it's unsafe lol, it's full of big bad people like the members of this and other forums prepared to give their help and advice for free. Admittedly the most common piece of advice given is..... "Get a decent ISP!"
There must have been some form of press release as The Register has an article on it,

Like you i only had to use AOHELL support service once on version 6 they told me to repair internet explorer, they were not happy when i said the problem was still there they said it was my PC at fault, the cure was uninstall AOHELL and reinstall that cured it. If they had still been on the phone then i would have told them to get someone who knew about PCs.

I personally have used AOL for over three years and never had a problem with their support. Both the telephone and on-line support have been very helpful and cured the three or four problems I may have had.
Anyway, 1.5p per minute??? Whats the problem??? Rather pay that than 75p per minute that some ISPs charge for their support!!

I was on the line trying to sort out an overdue update and got it sorted within 5 minutes of talking waited about a minute in the queue, and its the weekend so the huge cost is about ....UM... 9p ? (not!)
