I'd like some feedback on a site I've just launched that allows anyone to sell their second-hand books online (and obviously buy second-hand books too).
I originally built my own site to sell my growing collection of books as places like eBay, Amazon's Marketplace and Abe Books charged high commission rates or monthly fees, forcing your prices up to unrealistic levels. I did find one online second-hand book selling site that didn't charge a fortune, but they only list one copy of a book at a time, which meant it could be months before yours even appeared on the site.
My site is completely free to use and I make absolutely no money from it, which means that whatever you make on a book (excluding online payment (PayPal) charges, assuming you use them) is yours to keep.
Anyway, the site address is http://www.listbooks.co.uk
Thanks
LP

Hi there, sites looking good, just one small thing, I notice that there is nothing on the condition of the books that you are selling, how about a book rating for condition (wherever possible) say 1 to 5, with 5 being in mint condition, being a book lover myself I think that the condition is inportant factor when buying, after all I wouldnt want to buy one covered in coffee staines with crinkled pages! otherwise great site - well done there.

Thanks for the comments.
Condition is covered on the individual item pages (rated from Poor to Excellent), just not on the more generic 'book' pages (click any of the latest listings titles and you should see condition as one of the details listed before the buy button).

Excellent idea & nice execution too. Easy to navigate and I like that you allow for reviews of the book as well, this is always a big plus for me on book sites.
Kids books are a massive market, since they tend to get used for a couple of years then recycled. As the site grows (and I sincerely hope it does because it's a great alternative to the big sites) you might want to think about sub-categories for children. 0-2, 2-5 etc. Parents selling them will know which to put them in so it should be easy enough.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, Andrea. Not being a parent, that's not something I would ever have thought of.

I think this is a very good site, an excellent resource for buying and selling second-hand books. I hope it goes from strength to strength. Madeline.

Nice site Longplay the colour scheme works well.
When you conduct a search, I take it that you are searching the book title?. Is there a choice of also searching the author?.
My focus went straight to the pictures of the books and those that were for sale. I missed the bit... 'List Books enables anyone to sell their second-hand books without paying anything to list them. To start selling your books you need to register for an account' .... which was just above, that ought to be punched up a bit maybe.
Also, for a visitor that hasn't registered, at the login below there appears space to advertise what the benefits are to register, also to again place a link to your registrations page that you have at the top of the page.
It is certainly one of those, 'I wish I had thought of that' ideas, wishing you luck.

Great idea and the site looks attractive and user-friendly.
The only thing that struck me was that I didn't like the way the star ratings were split over 2 lines on the homepage under 'Our top rated books'. Would prefer them to be kept on the same line.
This may be down to my screen size, but I use 1024 x 768.
Best of luck,
Mark.

I'll agree, it's a good design - I much prefer black on white sites, so thumbs up. Fair play to you, there's a massive amount of functionality in the site and I hope it really takes off!

Thanks both of you.
I know what you mean about the stars, there was a reason for it, but I think I'll force them onto a new line.
Still more functionality coming, some people are new happy! :D

I noticed that about the stars. It would definitely be better if they were all on one line. It's a bit odd if you've got 4 stars on one line and another one on the next line. I can't find anything else to criticise, though! Madeline.

Thanks, Madeline, I did put a lot of thought into the site when I started out.
Still isn't perfect though so I'm still adding features, refining parts and sorting out errors or loopholes.

You're welcome. It's obvious that you've thought a lot about the site and it shows. The star thing should be sorted out though. I don't know anything about creating a website, I just look at them from a user's point of view. Madeline.
