My new website project
      #202607 - Sat Jun 25 2005 01:16 PM

Can you please visit my website - www.webstation8.co.uk its a site originally built on free webspace which I decided to register and transfer over as a .co.uk and leave room for further expansion, its mainly intended as a non profit making, personal project which provides general info for all users. I know I will prob get a slating for you all in some area :( but all comments welcome !! One prob i do know about is that I need to re-design the background for resolutions above 1024x768 ! TIA

Hi,

it looks like you've put in a lot of work on the site, and there is a lot of content too.

What would improve the site by about 1000% would be to drop the strange scrolling blue bar background. Maybe you went for it at first as it looks eye catching, but from a usability point of view, it is a bad idea.

It is really hard on the eyes, and makes the white text in the foreground almost unreadable. It is also slowing down my PC for some reason - prob. because you have set your bg image as a 41Kb animated gif, which is not a good idea either.

Really, it would make a big difference! Why not just set your background to black?

Anyway, you get my point...

On the whole, I liked the site. Lots of info for old and new PC users alike. I have to agree with Jim about that moving blue thing; it looks nice at first, but it makes some of the text awkward to read. For some reason, my CPU usage shot up while I was on the site.

Thanks for the feedback from you both, The site was originally designed with a plain background and I did intend for it to stay that way but when I come across the background gif I decided to give it a try, I think I am going back to a plain background for def now, and prob will have been changed by the time anyone else gets to review it ! Thanks for your honesty on what you have said and any more comments are welcome from you all

Hi,

I do like the site and had a quick look at the FTP section as I happened to be looking for some FTP software. I thought you may have included some direct links to downloads? I had to google SmartFTP and then go froom there.

I would also suggest you work on cleaning up the graphics you use at the top of the page. Everything else looks nice and tidy, but those logos look a bit clumsy.

Really like the menu!

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mevetts - Thanks for your well valued opinions...

Point taken on the top header graphics, I think its the next step for me to take, and make it look more attractive for other visiting web users. As for ftp sites, Did you try the software section in the ftp menu, all links (wherever possible) should take you to the software designers/manufacturers home page to download them. I have just tested the smart ftp link and it does take you to the homepage of smartftp, I could have pointed you straight to the download file for FTP software but the only problem is if the software location is changed or newer versions are developed then it may leave users downloading older outdated versions or could leave dead links which is something that I want to avoid, plus going to the main page instead of the download link leaves users open to view what other products the company have on offer and also companies may hold several versions of the specified software for different operating systems, if theres anything else you would like too see or you feel is letting the site down please let me know !! TIA everyone
